Didn't someone post a site that had different noises our motors made when stuff was wrong? Just when I think I've got everything fixed, I've got a noticable noise (I don't think its valves... its not a "clack"). This is more like a loud whistling noise when you put it under gradual throttle... almost sounds like a turbo (I wish!) spooling up. Other than the noise the bike runs great...? Could it be the speedo cable??

Does the noise intensity increase with engine speed or road speed? Speedo drive noise will follow the speed of your bike.

That sounds like the normal noise our engines make. I think the consensus was that it is the primary gears but I wondered if it might be from the timing chain. It used to bother me but now I don't even hear it.

Get a set of non baffled Septre exhaust, you won't hear that noise anymore.

Well I've got totally gutted stock pipes (which are very loud) and I can distinctly hear the noise over the pipes. I hung down off the side of the bike while riding (quite a feat in itself) and the sound is definately coming from the motor. I'm kinda with Ian here... the bike runs great for a change... I'm going to convince myself not to worry about it. I'll have it checked out when I do my big bore!

Could be a leak - intake or exhaust.

I get that sort of 'turbo-ish' spool up noise but it is coming from the cam gears. use to worry something was wrong, but found no wear or metal fines. probably the sound caused by the straight cut gear teeth and the back lash compensators.

Are you shure it's not wind whistling though your teeth as you grin happily now that you baby is up and running well? Seriuosly, every Bonnie varient, 360 and 270 degree, I've ridin has a distinct noise coming from the head. It's especially noticable on a completely stock bike. Some refer to it as the sewing machine noise.

Sorry for the late reply. Missed this one.
Some of the fellows have reported different noises from the speedo. Here is a link to a member who had a grinding noise from his due to an improperly seated cable. http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...true#Post414797
I imagine you could also get a high frequency whirring noise or some form of cable noise from a binding cable in the housing. These are low tech mechanical devices and with them come a miriad of noise type potentials.
