What's the maximum speed you've wound out to on your America/Speedy?
Specify MPH or KPH, engine size, sprocket gearing and other relevant performance mods.
I haven't pushed my '09 865 America over 150kmh yet - mainly because of lack of a safe, cop-free opportunity. Just curious what can be had.

It looked to be about 118mph or 119mph , just shy of the 120 mark.....however the Texas Highway Patrol ( just East of Pecos, Tx) said I was only doing 111mph ! But that was stock except for AI removal , K&N filter and Scepter exhaust....now it has the 904 BB kit installed so could probably do the 115 - 120 mph

Well past an indicated 120mph with 120/90 front tire, 904, ported and polished head, stage 1 cams, Sceptres, 16/42 or 19/42 sprockets. It'll do it either way.

Thanks for the 904s. What about the 865s?
(sorry Daniel I didn't read your post carefully enough -I see now it was before the 904 kit. Was it a 790 then?)

I've seen 115 MPH on my 790, into a headwind with a little throttle left.

I (we) hit 70-75 mph once in British Columbia last July. Coincidently a kindly officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was simultaneously there to record the event. He had a very fast horse.

Any report without outside verification is useless. Unless you have GPS or the aforementioned kindly RCMP with a radar gun confirming your speed (or perhaps a properly calibrated aftermarket digital speedo), it doesn't mean a thing. Triumph speedos are crap.

160kph,but that was by speedo which we know is "a little" inaccurate. On the dyno run I just had done it reached an accurate 180kph. "07 America 865cc.Aftermarket pipes,AI blocked,re-jet,K&N filter, snokel removed ,carb needles shimmed

I always stick to the limits like you Graham. We are always well behaved!
Anyway approx 120 on the clock was 109 on the sat nav!
Btw speedo ok upto 30 mph past that understated by about 5-10%.

2003 Speedmaster 790 16/42 gears. Slight downhill grade the very optomistic Triumph speedo was well past 190 kph (118 mph). The bike was wound right out because I came up against the rev limiter. Bike has shown an indicated 190 numerous times in it's hard life but that was the first time it actually came up against the rev limiter in a flat out run. That's all there was and there weren't no more.

A couple of times I've pulled the bike back at an indicated 175kph - the bike had more in it but I didn't. 790cc, 18/43, slightly bigger than standard jets (can't remember what size, not much over standard though), modified air inlet, thunderbike pipes. Oh, and a big roadster screen to slow it down too, so would probably do more without it. Before the pipes it would max out at just over an indicated 160kph.

I pulled just under a ton once... the speedo was reading 160 kph. But then again my speedo read high in those days (pretty much bang on now with the bigger front tire) so I was actually going a wee bit slower than that.
Live to love, love to live.

I'm thinking a GPS would only be accurate on a reasonably level road ... I don't imagine hills are factored into their speed? 2% gradient would introduce a 2% error.

True. 10% variation is a lot (145 vs 160). My speedo reads 4% less than actual (based on 5km road markers). Just pointing out that GPS aren't as accurate as some might assume. If you're going down a moderate hill they could be out by 5% or even 10% on a steep hill.

Was climbing through 96mph yesterday, in 4th, when I had to throttle back...pesky cagers!
Stock '07 America, 865. Well, almost: AI gone, last baffle removed, snorkel removed, but not rejetted, yet. (So I'm sure I was pretty lean at those higher RPMs.)

186km/hr 115mph, Installed GPS, fully legal on the A2 near Berlin on the way to the Euro rally in Poland. I have the 904 with FCR39 flat slide carbs, i was flat out but still slowly increasing. I think around 190KM/hr is possible. Nick

I have made the ton a time or two. I would guess this bike (stock) will do 110.

just after break in on a mostly stock 865 speedy, I ran it up to a indicated 120 mph (it took a while to get there). given the known inaccuracy of tthe speedo, probably really 110 mph. Haven't tried it recently, but with (now) taller gears more hp and a slightly higher redline, pegging the speedo should be easier.

I hit an indicated 115 mph (actual probably almost 10 less) and I felt it could definitely keep going up, only problem - I couldn't.

How fast is buried? "I've had my speedo buried"
Americas are not fast. They are a mid-range cruiser. Just enjoy the ride man.
If you want to go really fast buy another bike.

Yeah I agree. Mine is plenty fast enough for me and ditto for acceleration. I was just curious about what they could do cos I haven't wound mine out yet. And I thought it would be interesting to compare results across the different size engines.
