Anyone planning on buying the Beatles remastered albums? How about the Rock Band - Beatles video game? I'm going to buy all the cd's, but my Grandkids (9 & 7) want the video game!

Mr. Bucky Wetblanket checks in: I wonder about the coincidence of Michael Jackson's death and the sudden availability of these products. He owns the Beatles song book.

I heard they are about to work out a deal with itunes to get their catalogue available there too. Apple Records VS Apple computer sort of thing.

Not connected. The engineers have been working hard for several years on re-mastering the recordings to make amends for the dismal re-releases of their works that began way back in 1987. Some very light compression and enhancement to remove clicks and noise while keeping all of the other artifacts of the original recordings will be a welcome addition to my library.
I'm most interested in the mono mixes so it's going to be the box set for me; the original masters where all mixed in mono (at least thru Sgt. Pepper's) since the band wasn't really interested in stereo. That left Martin and Emerick to do the stereo mixes and I, for one, would really like to hear what the band intended.
As for the Sony/ATV partnership with MJ, they only own Northern Songs and that's just a partial catalog of the Beatles songs. Sony/ATV owns 50% with MJs estate owning 50% but it's a common and persistent myth that he held the catalog exclusively.

Folks have been clamoring for a remaster of the Beatles CD's for a long time. The CD's available previously did not have the correct sound quality and real Beatles fans thought them a far cry from the LP versions. We have most of the CD's and they sound OK to me. I'm sure we get Sgt Pepper/Revolver, etc. I curious as to how they sound in comparison.

I'll probably end up buying them all. I have just about all the previous CDs and LPs. The CDs don't sound as good as the original LPs. To get them re-mastered to where they sound as good (or better) without the wow and flutter would be hard for me to resist. I don't buy MP3 files as the quality is far below the last 25 years of CDs. We have the technology to greatly surpass CDs, but the public has settled for newsprint over magazine quality and would rather go the cheapest route.

You must be clairvoyant. I read the news today, oh boy: Quote:
So what happened? Well, in short, technology happened. The world has sped up, become more connected and a whole lot busier. As a result, what consumers want from the products and services they buy is fundamentally changing. We now favor flexibility over high fidelity, convenience over features, quick and dirty over slow and polished. Having it here and now is more important than having it perfect.

Interesting read Ed. Confirms another one of my observations. The MP3 generation doesn't even know what good sound is. Most concert sound systems now sound like MP3s. The goal of transparent reproduction of sound has been thrown out the window. It doesn't sound "right" to many now unless it's been digitized, chopped, and compressed. Disheartening and definitely has taken the passion out of my work. BTW, my own PA is still 100% analog. I sub in the big "new" guys when needed.
Didn't mean to hijack, and yes, I will buy the new Beatles' CDs.

I agree, the digitalized sound quality sucks, I miss the garage band sound. I won't be buying the Beatles boxset, Revolver and The White Album are the only ones I've ever owned. While I do appreciate the Beatles' historical significance and talent, when I want to hear the Beatles I just find an elevator.

I have two of every Beatles album. I was a bit of a fan way back. I don't know about this new one. I like the scratchy LPs I still play.

I've bought 3, so far. The sound is excellent, even played on minimal sound equipment, like my laptop. For me, it's getting used to the order of the songs. I always had the US albums, so knew the song order by heart. Now I get surprised Guess I'll acquire the rest.

We bought "Let it Be" Sat night. Wife didn't have that LP (er CD, actually she has most of the LP's). I'd like to compare the new CD to the Old, but don't really have a means to play them that way (5 disc changer at the house). Quote:
