Well I needed my front wheel worked on and I had a local mechanic handle the job. Once the wheel was ready to be put back on he realised that he couldnt locate the Speedo.

He agreed to replace it but would like to know who to call to place an order like that.

Also, in the mean time since I havent been able to ride my TBA at all yet because of this wheel issue, he told me that he can fit a custom bushing in its place that will make the bike safe to ride, but it just wont have a speedometer.

Does this seem okay?

Thanks!

why did he take the speedometer off to work on the wheel? or are you looking for the speedo drive gear?

Really sounds like the drive gear Steve. Is it the part that mounts on the left side of the axle where the speedo cable attaches?

If you mean the speedo drive at the wheel,Pinwall had several when mine failed recently. I bought mine for $9 and it only had 7,000 miles of use on it. Read the description the tell you the mileage on the part and list any known faults. So far many happy customers here on this sight have saved a bundle at Pinwall and been happy with the parts received.

yeah sorry, its the speedo drive at the wheel thats missing. I will definitely check out Pinwall if he cant find it by next week.

In the mean time, does riding the bike with a custom bushing in its place just for spacing purposes seem okay? I wont have speedometer, but I only will be driving at low city speeds anyway. I just want to make sure the wheel is safe, since I am beginning rider.

I found this one for a 2005 America with 10,000 miles. My bike has 900 miles on it and is a 2003 Bonneville America, will they be compatible? Thanks for all the help guys, I thought for sure I was looking at a $300 price tag for something like this.

That's the unit, they also fit from the Thunderbird and a couple other models. I was not happy when the drive washer failed and took mine out either. I saw the price and cringed then checked Pinwall. Take a good look at the ears on the drive washer mine failed at about 20,000 I think but didn't quit all together for a couple thousand more. I advise anyone changing a tire take a look at that drive washer, could save your drive.

Not as long as the seal wasn't removed from the wheel. The seal holds the drive washer in. With your low mileage the seal should be fine.

You could also get a speedo drive eliminator from LC Fabrications:

http://www.shop.lcfabrications.com/product.sc?productId=18&categoryId=4

Then get an electronic speedo, like a Sigma.
