Gave a gal a ride home, 20 plus miles and she left half a sandal melted on my pipe. Usually use some WD-40 and 4 ought steel wool, but this has areas too thick for that. Any suggestions?

What we won't do for a gal, and pass the beer nuts.
This idea should work... shave as much of the sandal material as possible using mechanical means (scraper, knife, fingernails... then hit it with paint remover. Worked wonders for me in the distant past but that was before all this space age material we have now. I'd still say it's worth a try.

Acetone will melt plastic without harming the chrome - you just have to keep applying until it disappears. I wouldn't use anything abrasive as it might permanently mar the chrome.

Don't give it a second thought, she'll figure out something.(Though she may need to consult with her mother)

Scrub it of with a lump of sugar and some water. Actually you need many lumps of sugar but it works and you won´t leave a mark.
I did this after I melted a plastic bag to my pipes and I got it all off just fine. Just do not heat it up before you begin.

A few years ago I took off a nylon windbreaker jacket on a windy day and carelessly let it hit my exhaust header. It wrapped itself the pipe and melted as it touched the chrome. I continued on the trip (a little over 500 miles) and found that most of it simply burned off during the day.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
