I have been considering a gps for my bike and was trying to come up with a way of mounting it. It new tomtom GPS has a circular mounting setup that might fit nicely into the tac spot on the console. This might also enable the use of the clock cable to power the GPS. Has any one considered this and looked into it?

Good idea but is the tomtom waterproof? Your power supply has to be 5 volts to run this unit. You could probably use the 12 volt supply for the clock and power up the car power adapter for the tomtom.

I think that's a windshield mount so you'd have to fab up something smooth and flat to fit in the console. I think it's claim to fame is that it's easy to move from car to car.

I have mine in a bar mount and that seems pretty standard.

Jim, find a way to permanetly mount the little triumph circle panel on the dash so it wont ever fly off. Or replace it with something that will. Drilling a couple tiny holes on the underside side parts of the insert and looping some wire?..Something.

And then drill 2 holes through your suction cup down through the circle insert to mount it. It should detach from the ball joint behind the GPS right?

This is the super deluxe locking mount, and it's certainly ugly. However, there are other mounts on the same site which are more attractive and less expensive than this one. They don't lock your unit, though, so you'd have to remember to take it off and secure it if you park your bike.

I think its funny when most guys are getting "low profile this" and "sleek, aerodynamic, polished" that...and then get the itch for a GPS system and without even thinking just bolt some crazy contraption to their handlebars.

Personally I would never put a GPS on any vehicle. Just like cell phones and those new passports, they're a way for people to track your every move!

Tip: A little tinfoil in the top of your helmet foils this attempt.

My buddy made a mount for his Garmin using a $2 clamp from Lowes. It works great, and completely removes from the bar when not needed.

It actually detaches from the ring. There is just a spring clip holding the unit on the ring. Personally I do not think there is a safe way to mount the unit other than a proper holder. The RAM unit is ugly but it is waterproof and a solid mount (if thats what you want). The other option is buy a unit specifcally for motorbikes. Personally I just keep the unit in my pocket or saddlebag. If I get lost, I pull over, program where I want to go then read the directions. It gets you going in the right direction.

That's what I've done also.

Is there a wireless link between the GPS and a receiver/earphone device for the helmet so that someone could listen to the GPS instructions from that cute lady.
