well, after the umpteenth time of getting hauled home riding my 73 ironhead sportster, I got an 07 america, and love it. the guy I got it from told me about this forum...so...hi!

Welcome.I used to have an ironhead Sportster too so I know your pain. Mine was a lemon from when I got it new in 1974 until I sold it in 1975. Like you I've got a '07 America these days.

AI is air injection.Part of the anti-air polution stuff on our bikes.You block it off when you change pipes and re-jet the carbs.Bike runs better/stronger and stops the pipes from bluing so much.
I'm sure someone technically smarter than me will tell you more.

If you see a tube outboard of your spark plug you still have the AI on there. There is a kit available from several places to eliminate it. There is a pump under the tank. There is a large tube running to the air box, a vacuum line to the left intake (if I remember what side correctly) and a tube to each side of the head that injects air into the area after the exhaust valve. The removal kit consists of a plug for each opening left by the tubes by the spark plugs, a cap for the vacuum line, and a blanking plug for the air box tube.
