Has anyone ever tried debaffling their stock "tapered" pipes? my concern is fishing out the baffled after I punch them loose.

Yea...how many baffles out? Right now I made my long slash cuts into short cannons...And i miss my long slash cuts with 4 baffles out...they sounded good..ran good...and I lost my mind for a minute lol
So is it possible to bang the baffles loose, and fish them out through the tapered end? I dont wanna chop again...

All baffles out. I cut just the tapered part off.

Yea...but i like the nice smooth chrome edge... I was wondering if any1 on here was able to get the baffles out of the tapered pipe without removing the tapered tip. I was thinking since the baffle is so thin minus the center pipe that maybe they could be yanked through.

Could you try doing it from the other end?

I have a nice smooth edge but I am sure you could yank the baffles out through the taper with some work. Won't be easy though.

Roadworthy...Can go from the other edge...it's only 1.5 inches where it connects to the headers. And Dog...How do you have a smooth edge...didnt you just straight cut right before the taper? Cant you see the lining of the baffle screen?

Nope I didn't cut it that short. just smooth steel. I cut so that the first 3" baffle was about 1 1/2" in still. The mesh is behind that baffle.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread... Now, getting the "Gunter Saw" over here would be prohibitive (as shipping the whole thing to Asia would surely be very expensive) So I got a hole saw here. Could I go and find some kind of rod extension to put the hole saw on? Didn't see anything like that at our "local" hardware store. Also, I don't have an easy way to solder a tube extension to the hole saw. Bear with me please! Also since I am trying to keep my tapered ends, how do you guys "crumple" the baffle inside? I tried with one exhaust. I just punched the tapered end to get to the first long baffle, got the tube out, but not the surrounding plate (hence my need for an extension on the hole saw). Knocked the 2nd baffle (the whole thing: plate and tube) but I don't see how I could crumple the thing! Help!?

Having debaffled two sets of slash cut stockers now and knowing the frustration of getting the crumpled up plates out of those, I'd say you are far better off following Dogs technique and cut that Taper off and go in from there.

Ryan, I've had my stock tapered pipes completely gutted. I couldn't tell you exactly how it was done since it one of those friend of a friend deals that I was able to get a hookup with. But it is possible.

Well, I got fed up of trying and turned them into... short cannons!
Wow, there is indeed a huge increase from one baffle out to two. Not sure I love the sound, compared to my long TORs. Will need more riding to compare. Since the cat is still in, I guess it helps in attenuating the louder thumping of the TORs, it is a bit muffled with the 2-baffle-out-now-short-cannon-used-to-be-tapered pipes.
Would love to try something else, but offerings are minimal in the part of the world I live in.
Cale, I guess your friend went to other route and gutted your pipes from the the other end.

Not to my knowledge. The few times I talked to the guy it sounded like the went through the tail end vice header side. Honestly, at the time I didn't care how it got done.
