Finally got a chance to do ohm test Good Reg vs bad one.
Positive test lead on black wire with white stripe.
Negative lead to
Good- Bad
1- 8.75 - 1.0
2- 7.90 - .8
3- 8.6 - .9
Negative lead to black with red stripe.
Positive lead to
Good - Bad
1- 10.1 - 1.9
2- 9.3 - .8
3- 11.8 - 1.0
Reversing the leads on the striped wires on the good one, no reading. Reversing leads on the bad one, same as bad readings above.

Hello,
thank you for displaying the results,I am a newbie at this, can you please elaborate on these questions.
I have a 2004 triumph america, i think the regulator rectifier is going bad.
First where is the regulator rectifier located? how do i get to it?
Second what tool did you use to get these readings?
Regards.

Eddie, what makes you think it's the rectifier? Battery new? Old and won't charge? Maybe a larger wire from the rectifier to the battery will cure that. Search for "charging system mod" to see what it's about.

The r/r is bolted to the back of the engine/transmision case under the swing arm hinge. there is a plugin below/between the carbs that can be disconnected to test it. The Amp meter I have is an Innova 3320. Its an inexpensive one that I got at walmart but it works good and does everthing I need it to do. 20 or 30 bucks. A quick test to see if its charging or not can be done at the battery termanals when your bat. is charged fully bike not running it should test 12+ voltsDC. bike running 2000 to 3000 RPMs should test around 14 volts DC. If not there are some other things to check before replacing R/R. I'll find you a link to the thread where I troubleshot mine. Oh yea, welcome to the sight you will find it, and the people here, to be very helpful.

Thanks for the link...
i just found out something strange. i took out the battery which is less than 2 months old and put it on charge . it has been there for about 8hrs and it is still not giving me a 12V test... this is the second battery that i buy in 4 months, the first battery lasted a month or so as well...
is there something in the electric system that goes wrong and damage the battery???
