The stock suspension sucks! It is especially noticeable when I get on my Harley immediately after getting off the Speedy, its smooth as silk comparatively, don't feel like I am getting beaten up! Please help me upgrade! Also a better seat wouldn't hurt either..............

A lot of folks do progressives up front and back. Look at Fast Eddy's site. In terms of the seat, I have to recommend the Corbin.

Do the Suspension upgrades really work, I hate to spend the money and still be unhappy!

+1
The 440's are much easier to dial into your personal sweet spot than the stock shocks.
I also HIGHLY recommend a Corbin saddle. When you first get one, you'll wonder if you did the right thing, though. It takes about 200 miles in one to break it in to your own butt cheeks and get used to the new ride. They really are more of a saddle than a seat, and mine supports my heinie which alleviates a lot of pressure from my lower back.
However, keep in mind that these are NOT Harleys, and that's one reason that so many here like them...

I thought hardlys were smooth 'cause the're always broke down... smooth as silk until you start it up. Tho I figured an idling harley would make a great back massager...

Any opinions on the progressive heavy duty 412's. I'm 6'5" / 250 lbs and the 440's are not recommended since they do not come in heavy duty.

That's what I was wondering too, I'm the same size as Ijpm. I had to put in heavier fork oil when I changed to progressive fork suspension. I've been putting off doing the rear suspension because I'm just not sure what the best choice is.

I really like mine. I was a bit heavier when I bought them, now I weigh 30 pounds less, and they still suit me fine. They ride a little bit stiff solo, but 2-up they are super smooth. No more bottoming out, and handling is great all the time. I would have gotten 440's if they were available in HD, or maybe 12" or 11.5" 412 if they came in HD.

I too was really concerned after riding my first lengthy few hundred k's and new straight away I needed help. First thing I did was get on here and ask questions and was told much the same thing, change to progressive suspension both front and back and look at buying a descent seat.
So I bought a corbin saddle with backrest and Hagon nitros rear and hagon progressives springs for the front.
Yes it did take a little while to get my corbin to feel right and now I just do not get a saw backside ever. The hagon nitros required me to get the springs rated to my weight, which I did and now I have got it sussed.
Over your way I hear a lot of you blokes are buying the progressives and provided you can get the springs rated to your body weight and also feel comfortable you can adjust the pre-load for more or less weight and not require different springs, then you cannot go past having a chat to Fast Eddy. He is not only as honest as the day is long and a top bloke to boot, but he'll make sure your purchase is one you are absolutely happy with. I've got no doubt whatsoever about that. Good luck

I have the progressive 412 HD, and to me they're only slightly better than stock. But I'm a big boy, and opposite of Dave, I've gained 30 lbs since I bought them. They may be fine for you. If I had it to do over again I would have spent the extra cash for the 418's or 440's.

Progressive 440s & front springs: great for many years. As for a seat, my home-made backrest is all I needed for myself.
