Myself and buddy had planned to go to Kelowna tomorrow... do the big loop up to Nakusp, South to Needles, across the ferry and over Hwy 6 to Vernon (rated best ride in N. America) down to Kelowna, the home on Hwy 3.
We're not going due to forest fires. The smoke here in Trail is intense coming from a fire North of Nakusp. Over in Kelowna area they have Hwy 97 closed to Vernon because of fires and they say visibility is poor. The sun here is blocked out by smoke, I can only imagine what it must be like in Kelowna.
Rain is predicted along with thunder storms. Hmmmm, doesn't sound promising. Have to lay low for a while until things get sorted out.
Live to love, love to live.

Keith, SWMBO and I rode over Hwy 6 on Saturday for a swim at Edgewood. From Vernon to well east of the Monashee Summit is very smokey. Today we rode a loop up to Sicamous and Salmon Arm then back down the Salmon Valley to Armstrong - smoke in the air all the way, and getting worse. We need RAIN NOW ! Pedro

Thanks for the info there Peter. So is it true 97 is closed or is it the Westside Road? Wondering too if that smoke is making it hard to see and breath. What I got from drivebc.ca is that visibility is poor.

It's hard to get current info from that neck of the woods. I was going to make a run up to Kelowna next weekend. Hopefully, the "Wildfires" have the "Wild" taken out of them.

Yeah, we're getting some of the smoke down here even.

No, 97 is open, but Westside Road - a terrific m/c road - is closed from just north of Kelowna to just south of Vernon. Too much smoke, too close to the flames, and they're trying to keep the road clear for emergency equipment. One of BC's other best rides - Lillooet south to Whistler via Duffy Lake - is also closed due to the Lillooet fire, now out of control. BC's burning ! Give a prayer for the firefighters in the air and on the ground, all of whom are performing Above And Beyond !

Peter, thanks for that update. I dutifully fought fires in 85. Hardest, HOTTEST, most dangerous job I EVER did!! Yes, let's send out our thoughts and prayers to those on the ground and in the air. Hopefully mother nature will lend a hand soon.

Headed up towards the fires today to do a mini Kaslo loop. Nope, got part way, then turned around. A localized storm laid up ahead... when we stopped we could hear the rolling thunder echoing off the mountains and the sky looked angry. Talked to some fellas who just rode through it and they said hail was really pounding down. They spoke too of the thick smoke they rode through and that sounded even worse. Not good for anyone thinking of riding through these parts.
