Im finally able to ride my TBA!!! My bike is a 2003 with 900 miles on it. All garage kept, I had a mechanic take a look and he said the tires are still fine. I still need to contact the old owner of the bike to see the last time the fluid were changed and what maintenance was done.
I am assuming nothing was really done since the mileage was so low.
I have the Triumph Maintenance sheet, however my money situation is a bit tight. What definitely needs to be done before I really start riding? Thanks !!!

Change the oil and filter, drain the tank and put good gas in it. Put a new battery in it.
Go riding.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Congrats on your MC endorsement . i,d change the oil anyways ,hit walmart buy a gallon jug of Rotella T synthetic oil(blue jug) and a supertech 6607 oil filter ,probably cost around $25 for both.maybe pop open your brake resevoirs and have a look at the fluids, see if they seem clean .they should be good for now ,but id be looking to change them soon (winter project maybe).have a look at your plugs too ,there fairly cheap to replace. good luck and enjoy your new ride.

That's the price (It's an old manual). Mid grade fuel, and maybe check the rubber parts, like the vacuum caps on the carbs.

Way to go on the endorsement! You're gonna love the bike. After riding on and off since the late 60's I finally got my M/C license. The examiner said "you're a good rider, where did you get your experience?" After a pregnant pause while I scanned my brain for an answer that wouldn't incriminate me she intervened by saying, "riding illegally?" We both chuckled and she passed me!
Live to love, love to live.

Do everything thats been suggested so far and one more thing.....
Be as self aware as you can possibly be of all the dangers out there. Lots of members here have had crashes over the last three years or so.....plenty of injuries....and more recently the tragedy of complete loss of life.
Its a dangerous mode of transport. Be safe.

Use your turn signals, but don't trust others will see or even care about them.
Do NOT trust car drivers to use their own signals or to think they see you. In fact, pretend you are invisible at all times - to EVERYONE.
Before you get on your bike, remind yourself that "Someone out there will try to kill me today. I just don't know who it is, when it will happen, or even if it won't be myself."
Don't let your confidence overtake your competence.
Your bike is six years old. Get your oil and especially brake fluids changed, and check your tires regularly.
I recommend Newspeedmaster.com for a good place to spend your money.

By all means, change the oil, filter and brake fluid. That way you will have a known starting point for the future. Check the little rubber caps on the intake manifolds, the slightest crack will cause it to run badly. Put aside money for a new battery if the bike still has the original because 5 to 7 years is the most you can hope to get from them.

The only thing I would add is to adjust the handlebars and hand controlls to where you are most comfortable. Everybody has different preferences and a small adjustment can make a big difference.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Yeah I took the MSF weekend course, about 30 hours total on the bike, which was good since it was my first time ever on one. My plan is to ride as much as possible this year and then take the intermediate class next year and every year thereafter. I get to take the classes for free since they are offered at my college.
What brands and types of oil and brake fluid should I purchase? How bout the battery?

For your piece of mind, go to your Triumph dealer and get Modil T4 for the 1st oil change. Gunna be big bucks, but at least you wont be thinking about that while out adjusting yourself to a new bike. As far as break fluid, I would do the same. Use what Mr. Bloore intended. Then make your decisions on different oils, and there many.
Enjoy your ride.
