Hello everyone,
I'm new here and would like to get opinions on comparing these 2 motorcycles. Have had a 1998 Suzuki Marauder VZ800 for 7 years (but only rode 2200 miles) and just got a 2002 Triumph America (only rode 20 miles so far). Thought the Marauder was great, but have already found the America to be faster, smoother and overall very "cool". Water-cooled vs air-cooled, Triumph slightly bigger/heavier, better brakes on the America and smoother transmission on the America. Has anyone compared these bikes? Anyone owned both and what did you like/dislike about both? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site. There is no comparison. One is an English born and bred fun machine, with 100 years of history and lore, and built in good looks and styling, brimming with coolness and distictiveness. The other is a Japaneese, disposable motorcycle.

Wow, Rich. That was like the debate scene in the movie "old school". What else is there to say?

It's simple. The Triumph is more betterer.

Ride it 20 more miles and you'll wonder why you asked this in the first place....

As you put on more miles, you will find the Triumph has so much personality you will probably start talking to it. Japanese bikes, on the other hand, tend to have somewhat less personality than an electric dishwasher.

My buddy has a Marauder, and its currently in my garage. His bike is a 2000 I believe, and my Speedy is a 2003. I don't like his bikes riding position too much, but then again, I can't really remember why...I have only rode it a couple times. He has had some issues with the carbs, but thats not the bikes fault...just gotta ride it more. The Marauder seems sluggish to me though, both in engine power and handling. The bike to me feels like it doesn't want to turn, and it is VERY low. Just my thoughts....

I don't understand the question. The two bikes you want compared are one that you owned for 7 years, and another that you currently own
You can be the one to answer your own questions, and then let us all know how much more you like the Triumph. Now, what you really need to do is, in the immortal words of Queen, Get on your bike and ride!

You drive 300 miles per year. Does it really matter?

Have fun with the Triumph, hope you decide to ride more.

But really, how have you seriously only ridden 20 miles on the America?

This is a really odd post. I think they aren't telling the truth about something. Just a suspicion

Maybe you need to leave the Kwak in the garage for one of those nice sunny Florida days!

Well, for right now, with the rain season and humidity, the "Florida days" are B.S. (much like my previous post )
