I have a friend making his way back to the UK on a 2002 Bonneville America. He is at present in Italy and is experiencing the bike cutting out while he is riding along. If he turns the ignition key off and then back on, it starts again straight away. Can anyone relate to this problem please? Bettina

Corroded connections somewhere, loose coil wire, etc. Just went through this on my 2002 America.

Shouldn't be an exhaust problem. Maybe a mod can move it into Misc Tech.

Thank you Friar John. This is my first experience of a forum, so it was super to get your response. I am writing from Norwich in England, and have forwarded your suggestions to my friend in Italy. Many thanks again.
Regards
Bettina

Mine did that two summers ago. I pulled the right cover, checked the ignitor wire gap, it was fine. Put it back together with a new gasket and it's been fine ever since. They updated the gap spec from what is in the book, I can't recall the new one, but it's in the tech vault. The gasket is an SOB to get all the old gasket removed. I did it without pulling the from the internals of the engine and just laid it on a milk crate for scraping, took about an hour!

I'm thinking a little more information is needed.

Did the bike always do this or is this a recent occurrence?
What work has been done recently?

I experienced the exact same circumstances a couple of years ago. Turned out to be my aftermarket Nology coils. Swapped the stock coils back in and zero problems. Nology made good on both coils btw and I have had no problems since.

Moving this to misc tech....
