Im possibly buying a classic 64' bonne and have heard that i should convert it to 12 volt and/or electronic iginition. Has anyone ever done this...or know a link to an article on how to? Any help would be great. Thanks!

it is already 12v pos. ground, I don't like the Boyer Branson electronic ignition for those but others swear by it. Lucas has made an upgraded breaker plate for those that is well worth the investment. Get rid of the Zener diode and get a Typanium unit to replace it. They make a new version now that looks exactly like the Zener heat sink and mounts in place of it.

I just put one of these in my friends Norton Commando and it turned a hard starting bike into a half-kick purring beast. It's the real deal. http://www.trispark.com.au/

it is already 12v is what he is saying.. but if you want to change it over to a electronic iginition.. he are afew place to start.. web page rask cycle web page great people you can call and they will help over the phone. and a ton of stuff that 64 triumph.. That's what I was saying, the Tri Spark is the real deal when it comes to Triumph/Norton electronic ignition.

My guide book lists that year as having a 6 volt Lucas alternator so if it hasn't been swapped out he's correct. Looks like 1966 was the change over year to 12 volts. Ian's very right about the Tympanium regulators, they're the real deal, too http://www.tympanium.com/dist.html

cool thank you very much..at least im pointed in the right direction now... Anyone have any objections to using these classic bonne's as daily summer drivers?
Or in case this sale doesnt work out...anyone wanna sell a 50's or 60's Triumph?

I stand corrected I though 64 was the change to 12V at the factory. I do know the 12V stator and rotor fit right where the 6 came from with no mods except except changing 6V componants to 12v. What I was also saying was that it is positive ground not negative ground like most things in the US. I don't like the electronic ignitions because when they shut off they shut off, there is no along the road fix. I always carry a spare breaker plate with points already on it and my timing tools when on the old bikes.

Mr. Dog, Are you really as Bad A$$ as your icon picture portrays? I just ask because you see very knowledgable and well spoken but your icon kinda scares me LOL No but seriously...I talk to brokenfixed alot and we're gonna tyr to get up and ride sometime...Where about in PA are you from?

That's cool, you are welcome to come up and ride any time. I used to be a bad a$$, prison time, HA and Breed friends, and all but that was quite some time ago. Now I'm a pretty easy going guy but still don't take any crap so I guess as longs as a person doesn't act like a complete idiot I'm easy to get along with.
I live just above Mt. Pocono. This weekend and next I think I am busy but then have the next 2 or 3 weekends off I think.
