I spent time over the weekend and yesterday deciding to buy the K1200RS I had my eye on. I had determined to sell my Speedy privately, get a bridge loan form my bank, write a check for the bimmer, and get insurance through Dairyland. This morning I called the sales guy at the dealer to let him know I'd be in to buy the thig, and he sez, "I have some bad news. We sold that bike Saturday afternoon." I had specifically asked him to call me if there was another interested party in the bike, and yet he didn't take the time to call me as a courtesy to let me know not to put any effort or thought into the deal. Am I wrong to be ticked off about this? I can deal with the bike being sold from under me. That's just business. But, he should have called me to let me know instead of waiting for me to call before he told me.

As a courtesy he should have called you. That is just good business. It sounds like he doesen't really care about return customers. Bummer that they did this to you. I wouldn't support a dealership like that. ~Brent

1 guy in the seat is better than some guy on the phone
like you said "its just business" and for a salesman to go out of his way for no money involved is unheard of
right?

So are you keeping the Speedy?

JC, Be glad you didn't accept any offers for the speedy. I see it as an omen buddy, keep the bike! It doesn't want to leave and deserves to stay with you. It's family ya know.

Okay, I'm gonna jump on the omen, 'meant to happen' bandwagon and quote to you something an old friend used to say frequently. "If not this, then something better." There's a reason for everything. Keep on the sunny side!!! (where's a sun smiley when you need one...)

Oh, I'm a little bummed about missing the great buy on a great bike, but that's just business. He walked in with a check, and I wasn't there to counter it. What ticks me off is that the sales guy didn't call me to let me know he had a guy with cash in hand and that I should not put any further effort into it in the two days the shop was closed. I'm in sales, myself, and I've had to sell positions another prospect was considering, but I always call the first guy interested to give them the first opportunity to close.
Without placing a deposit (my bad there, too), I had no claim on holding the goods.
This was really a great, pampered bike for the money asked, and I should have been a bit more aggressive in the deal or laid down a deposit.
Oh, well. Others are out there.

I think this is a sign. Stick with your speedy.

You know JC, the new K1300's have just hit the dealers or should be there soon. You could hold out for one of those.

Heck, at those prices, I'd just pay a little more and get a year old Cayman! THAT would be sweet!

All things happen for a reason. This bike wasn't to be. Look at the positive. You get to keep the Triumph

It's just as well. I've had a couple bummers and I'll stick with what I have now. They were nice enough, but not outstanding.

My bet is he is concerned with return buyers and sold the beemer to a current and former beemer customer.

I have always loved both my BMWs and Triumphs, but can't get around my fixation that the K series are not real BMWs.
