Sorry to hear you are down due to surgery. Hope you experience a complete recovery soon!!

Meanwhile there are those of us who can ride this summer and I'm a fortunate one of them. And you're right, life just isn't fair sometimes but by way of osmosis you too can join in the fun by being here and hearing our stories. And when you are able to ride again, maybe you can keep someone else inspired to hang in there until such time. So keep a chin up, know that one of the only things we can count on is change (this too shall pass) and even now when you are down, you keep the spirits up in others by your sheer enthusiasm and spirit..... Feel better?

Live to love, love to live.

Sorry about your surgery. Just take your time, and take it easy. Don't push it until the doctor says it OK. Last year I got a spider bite on my leg, It swelled about 4 times its size. When the doctor said stay off it I did. I put it up on the peg of my Harley and rode 600 miles. Bad mistake.

you have my full sympathy.

I have back issues too. My periods of non-riding have been winter (but I'm an all year rider) so in some ways it's not so bad. I haven't had a full blown op - though wish I had some days - but had a steroid injection at the start of January. That for me was a miracle. 8 day later I was riding again. Now I take it steady, wear a back support when riding and don't do too far without taking a break and stretching.

As the others have said, take as long as the docs say, don't rush. Your bike will wait, you only have one back.

All is not lost Karen, you can work out that 'out of the action' frustration AND get a little of the thrill and exhilaration of riding from your pc...

sorry to hear about your injury. Wendy is in the same boat this summer. Right after our trip to VA she fell off the back of our box truck and tore all 4 ligaments in her ankle. They wanted to put a walking cast on but put on a removable one instead so she can wash it due to what she does. Being outside all summer they thought it a better route. She is bummed as I am sure you are. I haven't been riding much either because of it. Maybe 2,000 miles all summer so far.

Sit facing a fan and watch this video....

Well, it's better than just sitting...

Sometimes during a long string of stormy days, I sit on the bike and watch it on the laptop.

q2,
Yea, me too. I just had thoracic stomach/esophagus surgery about 3 weeks ago and am still recovering. In fact, I will end up missing out on the NH rally cause I just cannot ride the bike and driving a car for that long is most likely not gonna happen either.
At least it's been really crappy weather wise so I haven't really missed a lot of riding yet. Hopefully I can ride again in a few more weeks.
Hang in there, it's all worth it in the long run.

Take heart, Karen - I had serious back surgery 16 years ago (a full fusion) and within six months I was snow-boarding, jogging and cycling, and a year later slalom waterskiing. Backs heal if you give 'em time. 16 years later my back can spend way more hours in the America's saddle than my bladder or coffee-habit can! Follow doc's orders, rest and remember that your trusty steed is waiting patiently for you, and ready when you are.
