My '05 TBA has been cutting out briefly followed by a loud backfire. At slow speeds it kills the bike, at riding speeding it just lurches and resumes. It's a bit dangerous when coming from a stop in traffic if it kills.
I have never experienced this before, it started occuring after I had floorboards and a signal minder installed by the dealer, granted it could be unrelated, although the timing is curious. The floorboards install would entail nothing to cause this from what I can tell, as for the signal minder, my first thought was that the vent tube was pinched under the tank leading to a fuel delivery problem, that is not the case though, any suggestions?
Thanks.

If the vent line were pinched, it would starve out and stop until enough air leaked into the tank to restore fuel flow. The short term stop followed by a backfire sounds like an ignition problem. Chances are good that there is a loose connection to the igniter or coils.

Loose or corroded connection. Check the kickstand killswitch circuit and everything attached to it (with the ground that's a lot). Look at my thread titled "my bike is falling apart."

I agree, sounds like a loose electric connection. Electric cuts out, raw fuel accumulates in pipes, when electric comes back, KABOOM! I used to do that with my old trucks when I was young. Turn key off while rolling in gear and then back on just as I passed pedestrians.

Also check connections to the coils, they've been known to come loose as they did on my bike. You don't even have to pull the tank, just get down low enough that you can see under there and make sure the connections are good.

Squirrel condoms dry rotted, are they?

Lots of good advice here. Most likely electrical, be sure to check the battery connections first. Get a tube of dielectric grease and take all connectors apart, grease and reconnect.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

check ur battery mine was doing the same thing when i would rap mine to the rev limiter it would just shut down till it droped to about 2000 to 4000 rpm and it would cut out when u first took off it would kinda act like u pulled one of the plug wires off. The batt was getting weak and the chargeing system could not keep up trying to charge a bad batt and keep everything else going it cause a bunch of problems. Get the bike warmed up and go drive it then wine it out to the rev limiter and see if it cuts out
