Does any one know of an after market backrest that will fit the triumph rack? I have seen a number of Honda and Yamaha backrests on ebay that look like they might fit but dimensions are not listed, specifically, width and distance between holes.

I assume you've looked into the Triumph sissy? Is that kinda sort of what you're asking about?

Yea, I looked into the Triumph one but the dealer wanted over $300 (and that is just for the back rest and pad, no additional mounting pieces). If you consider that the price of the rack + back rest is $467.99 and the price of the rack is $263.99 I would expect a price of about $210.
In addition, you can get an after market back rest for about $110. ebay.ca

And even with that inflated price they go and charge additional for the Triumph badge.

Maybe something has changed, but I thought the sissy bar came with the pad, choices were tall or short bar, and with or without rack.

According to the site: $389 (short), or $399 (tall).

Not cheap. I got mine from the Classifieds, here.

Yeah, Triumph accessories can be expensive. Try running an add in Classifieds... ya never know if someone out there has a used one they don't want anymore.

That price is for the sissy bar and rack. I already have the rack. I can buy a sissy bar and pad separately but either the dealer is gouging or Triumph is since it cost an 50% more for the sissy bar and pad than one would expect comparing the prices of the rack and the sissy bar rack combo.

Hopefully a Honda sissy bar will fit. I measured the span and the distance between holes and will check with Honda.

I'd still try running an ad in the Classifieds in THIS forum. What can it hurt!?
