hi I have just purchased a america on ebay, it is 2 years old but has only 249 miles on the clock. I have to travel by train on wednesday to collect it and ride it home 320 miles. could anyone tell me the max speed I should do as it is not yet run in cheers !!!

Seriously though, the best thing to do is vary your speed and throttle, roll on at times, let off and let it breathe. You won't hurt it by doing the speed limits.

the speed limit in england is 70 mph you think it would be ok at this speed most of the way

Yeah, like I said, just vary the throttle from time to time. When you get home, change the oil and then beat the pisss out of it!

just ride it 250 miles is nothing I forgot that speed limit is 70 here

For the first 500 miles, no WFO acceleration and keep the speed below 75% of max. By the way, max seems to be something in the range of 110 - 118.

Take her on up to 70 and above a few times in the lower gears on the way home.It won't hurt it.I rode mine home doing 80 to 85mph when it was brand new from the dealer to my house a 45 mile trip.It's got over 55,000 miles now.

I've run in to Americas now... the last one in the last 3 weeks. I rode the 09 home 150 miles from the dealer. It's a long story, but it was for the best. Basically no heavy 'aggressive' acceleration, no constant speeds - ie, don't go on the motorway, and you'll be fine. Where are you going to and from?? Any problems and the guys are here are great. Even the yanks...

Oh, I forgot. The handbook says to "ease it up to the rev limit" occasionally during the second 500 miles. A word of caution is in order here, the rev limit in the upper 3 or 4 gears will likely be faster than the law allows.

I rocked mine between 3000 and 5000 rpm on the interstste to break it in. After 500 miles it is broken in. The tolerances are so much better now. Breaking in is really an old school myth. Go to fully synthetic triumph Mobile One 15-50 like the manual says and use the Triumph filter.
2008 BA, Ageon Blue, roadster shield, light bar. tach, big bags, square engine guard, short sissy with rack. All Triumph parts. No mods.

Which is great advice - but it's an America, and I have no idea where 3000 - 5000 revs are and I'm on my third one. So a newbe...  no offence to the OP...
