Has anyone ever used duck tape in lieu of rubber rim strips? Got off the phone with Champions Honda asking about rim protectors. Strip=protectors? I guess one could be confused. He said they use duck tape instead of rim strips. I hung up before I got the answer to my question as to whether or not they sold rim protectors.

yes i have Moe and it worked ok, you dont want it to be any wider than the groove it sits in so you will probably have to cut the width but what also works very well is an old bicycle inner tube cut to width but you want to cut it so that it is still round (know what i mean??) is there a shuttle launch this wknd?? if so, how is the weather lookin for it??? do you think it will go??

I used electrical tape (black tape) many times. I wraped it a couple layers thick. Worked fine.

Wouldn't some RTV, applied evenly, work better than vent/duct/electrical tape? Dear God, we're talking about a safety issue here, not appearance. I might resurface my header pipes with duct tape (ugh - what a mess), or cover a scratch on the silver part of my tank, but not my brake rotors or rim strips.

Clean 'em up real good and dry and spray a nice even band of that black chunky undercoat spray to cover the spoke heads before you slap on the rubber strip . Water collects under the strip and will eventually eat up the metal around the spoke holes . Rust is bad . Rust is not our friend . Rust is evil .

40% chance of launch tonight. Yes I'll launch if the weather cooperates. Duck tape should work, but what a mess it would leave on the rim.

The trouble with most substitutes is that they don't take well to spoke adjustments.

with a couple layers of the electrical tape you can still adjust the spokes and it doesn't hurt the tape. Don't know about the duct tape.
