I have short TORs now and want something louder especially at idle. I want the pipes to be as short as the TORs.
Which pipes should I get.

My TORs dont have a baffle. They are straight thru, like glasspacks

I haven't done a set like that yet but hear they are harder to gut.

I was thinking about specialty spares shorts. I dont mind spending the money, I want to make sure they are louder than the TORs. I been riding my 72 t100 with tt pipes on it and now the Speedmaster sounds very quiet.

I have those same short TOR, they came with my bike. Almost any exhaust we talk about on this site is louder. Gutting those will be quite a bit louder but wouldn't be easy, or so I hear.

If the short SS's sound anything like the long SS canons, you won't be disappointed. Bub short slashcuts sound pretty bitchin too.

I like my Epco Stainless pipes. Loud enough but not ear splitting. They have a good sound and, with 790 or aftermarket cams they will give you a noticeable power increase.

I heard those Epcos and they are a lot deeper (throatier) then my short TOS.

Are you running the stock airbox? Short TORs really wake up with K&N pods when you roll on the throttle. I think mine sound deeper than the epcos at speed. Probably don't flow as well, though.

Yeah, I running the stock airbox. Huh... that will be interesting to hear yours and others at the Raid. Someday, probably this winter I'll end up with K&N pods.

The pods do make a difference in sound, I put pods on mine with the short TORs, still not even close to the sound I wanted. I don't know what you are after but seemed to me the pods changed the tone not the volume. With pods I had a deeper sound and could hear the pods sucking the air in to a certain degree. No longer hear that with my gutted pipes.

What I am really after is the sound of the old Triumphs although I do realize that ain't gonna happen. So if it ain't gonna happen then something deep and loud enough to scare the deer away as I approach.

If the deer there are anything like the deer here that isn't going to happen either.

I'm pretty sure there is something about the sound of any motorcycle exhaust that makes deer say, "Hey guys let's go stand in the road"

No kidding. And I'm pretty sure those little stick on deer whistles don't do anything either.

I don't understand why hunters wear cammoflage gear, deer scent, hide in trees or blinds. All you have to do is have a big bright headlight and a nice loud engine sound.
Those deer will jump right out at you!

Kangaroo shooters definitely don't need to wear camo.

I've even seen a Van drive slowly past a kangaroo standing on the side of the road, and all of a sudden the roo has jumped right into the side of the van as it passed.

It's like it wanted to commit suicide or had a death wish or something, I still can't believe I saw what I saw and it was years ago now.

That's why you never see roo shooters wear camo I guess, they are just dumb animals or should I say marsupials

I have the same as Greybeard on my Speedie. Almost 20,000 miles and they keep sounding better and better. I guess I will have to repack eventually. Right now, the only criticism is that they tend to turn a little bronze after a while because they are stainless steel. A little elbow grease and metal polish and they look great again.

I have Thunderbikes on my SM and even after all them Motörhead concerts I keep using ear plugs, people seem to keep turning their heads and fortunately the police haven´t noticed me yet, heh.

Bought them second hand but it seems they are stock stuff (the ex-owner had them for one summer so I don´t think he repacked them or anything). These are the long ones but they have short slash cut also.

I got the pipes on Monday. They sound real good. Lower tone than the TORs. Changed the main jets to 132s. Still have to change the pilots but didnt have the right screwdiver to remove them with the carbs still on. Only slight pop on decel. 4.5 turns out

4.5 turns out is pretty far out. How did you determine the pilot screw setting? Remember that you SHOULD have some decel popping with the Specialty Spares as they are a lot less restrictive than stock or TORs. If you turn the screws out until it stops you're probably got them way too rich.

I ended up with 45s, but my pilot screws are barely over 1.5 turns out and those were checked by rpm and a sniffer. My bike has a fair amount of decel popping which I kinda like. When I first started messing with it years ago, I had them turned out too far with almost no decel popping. Bike was running too rich and plugs didn't look good after running around town. Runs way better now.

I didnt change the pilots yet, still have the stockers in. Thats how I had it set up with TORs. I will probably leave it that way since it runs real good and very minor popping.

Not saying this is the case but you should remember that just because and engine seems to run well doesn't mean it's right. A lean engine will run great until the valves burn. A lean engine can seem to run better than one set up the right way.

I don´t know how you really adjust your bikes. I took mine to a professional who turned the mixture screw 2.5 turns out, said it´s just fine like that, balanced the carbs and everything works fine. Popping on decel but so what.

I asked the man, how does he know my bike isn´t running lean? He answered "with my experience you can hear it". What could I say to that??

I have D&D short pipes on the 2004 America and the carbs have been Dyna jetted for these. This was set up from the Brit that I bought the bike from who knew what he was doing. Anyway they are real LOUD and my Harley buddies like the sound. As they say Loud Pipes Saves Lives!

You can't hear it. You can adjust the pilots by listening but you can't do that with the mains. You can get ballpark by ear and reading plugs but to really dial an engine in you need to know what the A/F actually is at any given time from idle to peak and make adjustments. Only way to do that is with a dyno run or 3 after you get it as close as you can before the runs. I supposed you could install an A/F sensor and try and watch it while you ride to set it up too but too much work and cost, the dyno is much easier.

I have the blacked out Bombers from British Customs. Great sound at idle and also good at speed as well. Deep and throaty.

Well wjadma...you have options.
Do some research by using the search feature on here but many have taken the baffles out of their triumph pipes. It can be done.
Another option is using Chevy605. You can send him your pipes and for a very reasonable cost, he will set you up with some nice sounding pipes.

By the way wjadma...you can also sell your triumph pipes to Chevy605 and use that money towards getting what you want. That's what I did. He also covers the shipping. I sold him 2 sets of pipes and bought myself some SWEET sounding EPCOs.
