I took my new Speedmaster on a quick trip to Ocean City, MD this weekend. While I was sitting at one of the seemingly hundreds of lights on Coastal Highway, a Harley Softail with two riders pulled up beside me. I looked over and politely nodded to the guy. He ignored me. At first I thought, "What a jerk." Then I observed that the bike was shaking so hard that the guy's head was vibrating noticeably. I looked back at his lady, and she looked like a human bobblehead doll.

I looked back at the light and thought, "Man, I'm glad I bought a Triumph."

my bro-in-law had an Ironhead Sporty and I used to get a kick out of watching it idle because the front tire literally bounced. I thought the 01 Dyna T-Sport would be better, but while it is supposedly alot smoother at speed, still has the tire bounce at idle. The new 96ci is very smooth in the Softail Deluxe (one of only 2 HDs Ive ridden, the other bein a Night Rod Special). Still stickin with a Trumpet, tho.... no contest.

Must have been an older bike. Twin cam Softails have a counterbalance similar to Triumph (and late 70's Honda and Suzuki) twins that make them run as smooth as a Triumph.
Then, the early 80 inch twin cams had an electronic temperature control that shut off the rear cylinder if the engine was too hot. I don't know if that would overcome the balancing shaft effects.

All the newer 96" and CVOs have that same shut down at idle map (because of some serious heat issues) and they all shake like a Chihuahua trying to pass a peach pit at a traffic light.

The rubber mounts for his motor where probably on the way out. I can't get over how much the motor shakes on Cathy's FXR at a stop but smooths right out on the road.

I saw one new at a gas station before I knew about the rubber mounts and even then it shook. It was jumping around so bad I yelled to the guy that his exhaust was falling off. He called me over and showed me the whole engine was jumping around just as bad due to the rubber mounts.

So is it true that GIRLS seem to love 'em... kinda like they love washing machines? Just curious.
