Will anyone admit to haveing the baffle removal saw? I will certainly pay to have it shipped to me and promise to forward it to the next person on the waiting list.

While looking for the Baffle Saw I got the following PM from Captain Midnight:

I have two different sets of baffle removal saws. One is for the stock long pipes and one set if for the short "off road" pipes. I was told not to send them for free as they have a bad habit of falling into the hands of dealers who use them for profit. If you paypal me $60 I'll ship you which ever set you like.

This really surprises me. Up until now I've been very impressed with how willing everyone was to help others maintain, modify and assessorize their bikes. I think rather than the greedy old dealers trying to use the hole saws to make a profit that Captain Midnight is trying to line his pockets. What a shame.

Well after reading all I could,I took on the task of debaffeling my '07 America. The only big change in method was that I made my own extended 1 1/2" hole saw.I bought 2 saws [just in case] cut them in half & welded a 12" piece of pipe in between.Making a 13 1/2" holesaw.I made the first cut with a 1 1/8" saw [the outside dia.of the baffle] And followed with the 1 1/2" saw.I had both baffles on the ground in less than 10 minutes. My bikes went from sounding like a sewing machine to sounding like my old T-100....nice! If anyone out there is interested in using my little invention and are willing to pay the shipping PM me or email me direct at mswanson@snelsonco.com and I'll send one of them along....just be willing to pass it along to the next guy....see ya on the road..

I doubt the dealer aspect too, only way that would happen is if the member who has one gave or sent it there. If I had more time I would whip one up for you but with my new job I have little spare time.

I'd say it's his prerogative. If he made a set of saws they're his to do as he pleases.

Friar John, He didn't make up the set, he got them from Lazy Rider who even paid for the shipping to him. Here's the post I found:
I have the Gunter saw, and I'm hoping to be done with it in a week. When it goes to the next person, I'll pay shipping, and also include a 12" extension that I bought. The tool won't reach the third baffle without that. PM your address and I'll send it your way.

That certainly doesn't sound like anyone is requiring Night Rider to ask $60 to forward the saw since he's finished with it.

Thanks anyway. I would make one myself if I could weld, and I'm just glad that you have a job. Lots of people don't any more.

Starrett makes a 12" extension for hole saws.

Product number ( these are canadian part number, I don't think US uses different ) :

A5 : Extension for 1/2" chuck. Will hold A2 Arbor ( 1 1/4" + sizes Holesaw )

A15 : Extension for 3/8" chuck. will hold A1 Arbor ( 9/16" to 1 3/16" sizes holesaw )

Price wise, it will probably end up costing the same, altho US Prices are probably cheaper then canadian.

I just started a welding class... might be a neat little project to make one of those. I dunno though, I still haven't decided whether to de-baffle mine or not. It came to me with "after market" pipes, but I don't know what kind. A little more depth would be nice, but I'm still deciding.

Anyway, if I make the saw (or saws, how many and what sizes are required again?) I'll definitely pass it around to whoever wants it.

(Open source tools... what an idea).

Butard, if he would have said he would send them if I paid him for the shipping I would have thought nothing of it, but what he said was that he was advised to ask $60 because dealers were getting them and using them to make money. That's just not the same thing.

9.5 lbs seems like quite a bit of weight for even an extended length drill bit. You must have packed it well so that it wouldn't get scratched. hahaha

I have the one I fabricated, 12 inches in lenght and 1 1/2 inch diameter. If your bike have the slash cut pipes this will work great. I removed three baffles from one side in less than 30 minutes.

I can send it to you but I want it back, PM you address and I can find the shipping cost.

Thanks anyway SteamRoller, but I finally took my pipes to a motorcycle mechanic and asked him to remove the baffles. Hopefully it won't be an expensive trip. Maybe Personal Triumph can use them.

I had the guntersaw, forwarded (prepaid shipping) to Lazyrider who in turn prepaid shipped it to....???????

http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...rt=all&vc=1

Will somebody "man up" and admit having the gunter saw and forward it on to others on this forum. I thought everyone here was better than that.

I used to think that way too Keith. Seems a lot of guys on here don't have the know how or the tools to do so or time, one or any combination of the 3. I got quite a bit of a hard time when I would suggest making things yourself.

Steamroller, do you still have the saw? I thought I had things taken care of, but it didn't work out. I now have someone who will help me remove the baffles if I can get the saw. If you have it I will gladly pay for the shipping and either send it back to you or forward it to whoever you want to have it next.

Mountain man, some people are skilled at making things with a torch and others are skilled at other things. I build and fly radio control airplanes, which takes quite a bit of knowledge and skill, but I never had the opportunity or the need to learn to weld. If you needed help with one of your radio control planes I would be more than happy to provide assistance, without question or hesitation.
