I see progressive has longer shocks. Would that help a bit or would it throw the geometry off? I guess I'm asking what's the negatives vs. any postives?

Depends what you want.
Longer shocks will raise the seat height, quicken the steering a little and put
more weight on the front end, which should aid stopping.
But you'll see more air between the rear tire and the fender,
which some people think is a fashion no-no.

I ran Thruxton shocks on my speedy for a while(13.75" I think.) Only reason I took them off is because it made it difficult to use the center stand.

It made the steering much more responsive and raised the seat height just like BrianT says. I liked it and don't care about the rear fender sticking up. I still have some Bonnie shocks I may try to get closer to being able to use the center stand but still able to have better steering etc.

showing how the rear axle comes real close to the stock exhaust('05 model)but after you sit on it there is no worry.
