I also grew up playing b'ball Mike. Sometimes called the "perfect game"; 90' diamond, 4 balls-3 strikes-3 outs. Being a traditionalist I struggled for a time with the designated hitter rule, versus if you pick up a bat, you take the field. But is was a great watching Mr. October electrify a stadium.

One advantage of joining the dish tv world is seeing/listening to nightly games on espn or tbs. IMO Summer isn't summer without the crack of the bat. And I missed the college world series, but heard it was good & close.

Love the game, love the environment at the parks. St. Louis Cardinals fan myself. Just went to a game Saturday against the Royals.

I'm not for the DH either. The NL doesn't have it

That was the day Pujols destroyed them wasn't it? 2 home runs, one was a grand slam

And I agree, the AL needs to be done with the DH. The whole reason it was started was to boost the teams batting average. Look at the stats of the AL teams, they could stand to drop a few points.

Heh, I'd be REALLY disgruntled if I had to live in St. Louis

Although I have to credit Dave Duncan, gotta be the best pitching coach in the bigs, fields a staff good enough to keep them competetive with a bunnch of has-beens and never was'es. I'd love to see what he would do with the Cubs staff.

First thing he would do is toss that hot head Zambrano. Who are the has-beens and never was'es? Chicago has some good talent, they just can't put it together when it counts. And their best players stay injured, you know that can't be argued.

Hey Rich, we can discuss this further at the rally!

I just watched Field of Dreams last night with my son, so I'm all amp'ed up to make a side trip to it.

Man thankfully there's no mets fans on here. I deserve to be ridiculed after our last 2 outings

White Sox guy here. Was at the 13-inning win yesterday over the Dodgers. Hotter than Mojo Nixon. Too bad the Cubs couldn't help out vs. the Tigers though.

Yesterday wasn't anything to be embarrassed by, Santana is tough to beat. Carpenter pitched a good game, but the offense let him down again.

Mike,

Just saw this thread. Just got back from my 22nd trip to Omaha and the CWS.
I go every year for the first weekend and see all 8 teams play. When I was in college at KSU I would drive up and spent the whole week at Rosenblatt with my girlfriend(now wife). BTW I think I married her because she thought a hot dog and a beer at the game was a date.

I thought it funny how many Texans were rooting for LSU in the Series this year.....I guess some of us just get tired of hearing it all the time from the T-sips.

Speaking of MLB though, HOW ABOUT THOSE ASTROS?

I guess we are just entertaining ourselves because we can still BELIEVE we have a chance - just 4 games back after playing as poorly as we have....soo many games we could and should have won.....we could be a lot higher in the standings if we had.

As usual, it will be fun down the stretch watching the "good guys".....

There is not a better setting for baseball than in Davenport, IOWA. The ballpark is about 20 yards off the Mississippi River, the bridge is right along side the ballpark and is lit up, the mainline for the railroad if feet off the left side off the ballpark and the downtown views of Davenport and Rock Island are quite sweet. The inside of the ballpark is modern, updated only a couple of years ago, and yet they maintained the 1930's facade outside. the seats are very affordable, and the views from differing spots in the ballpark are amazing ( to go out to left field and see the bend in the river, the bridges over the river, and etc, its cool ). And the caveat, its a Cardinals affiliate.
