I'm impressed. I haven't babied it either and some of it was at 85mph and acceleration testing.

When I first goy my bike in 02, was getting 48-50 mpg. When I rode from Fla. to New York in 05 was getting 50 to 51 mpg. With this new ethanol gas, getting 40- 45 mpg. To get that now is really great
I was so much older then, I am younger than that now (Wrote By Dylan Sung by the BYRDS,)

I hit 53mpg once. I just got my 865 Speedy, my first bike, only a motorcycle permit-not a license, stock everything, and running the speedlimit.
Last week I hit 48.7mpg on about 190 miles. 100 of it was 80mph on two lane black top. 19 tooth front sprocket.

I changed my oil from 20/50 to 10/40 Mobil because of the easier availability, and I seem to have added about 5 mpg. Someone else on the site said the same thing a while ago. So now I'm getting about 47 MPG.

I agree... nice to watch the MPG out of interest but who cares what they do. Now if only Kuryakin (sp?) did a bolt on gauge that pluged into the ECU and riders helmet that could measure smiles per gallon that gauge would deffo need to go to 11

Mine is averaging 53 mpg but my point is it's the SMILES per gallon that count ;-)

True, very true! And there is no doubt I do my share of burning up natural petroleum resources by just riding aimlessly around!

I have long felt that the faster we utilize fossil fuel reserves, the greater the motivation to move off dead centre and "discover" more energy efficient means of transport.
Such reasoning makes me feel very Patriotic.

I've been told so... mainly by the guys trying to get me to buy a new bike.
However remember the new ones have a bigger tank.

I agree, didn't buy for gas mileage....but still would like to be getting better mpg. I normally hit reserve anywhere between 110-120 depending on style of riding.
Still, I love this bike, wouldn't change it for nuttin'!!
Cheers!

Granted, mine is new and still being "broken in" and is now due for the first 500 mile service, but the last 3 fill-ups have looked like:
42.5 mpg (149 miles, 3.5 gal to top off) 48.6 mpg (175 miles, 3.6 gal to top off) 49.2 mpg (187 miles, 3.8 gal to top off)
I'm pleasantly surprised, to say the least.

Last fill up was at 98.6 miles and it surprised me with only 1.56 gal. This is 63.2 MPG!!! The harder I ride it, the less it drinks.

Sounds about right. 600 miles on the 09 TBA and the mileage compares to yours. EFI I think.

Windshield makes a difference. run a bike with a sheild and you will get better than without. then theres jets, altitude, sprocket and oil but, considering all the things that will make a diff. the shield changes all.
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

I used to get about 52 mpg til they started throwing corn in the gas. Now I average around 46-47 on the highway.

Even with all the motorwork and bigger carbs, I still get 40 on the highway with my windshield. I always got better without the shield, but don't run much long distance without it anymore. Around town I get 100-130 miles to reserve, but that's because I spend a lot of time trying to get my front tire up And yes, I know it won't happen, but that won't keep my from having my fun!
