this is how me bike currently looks

It took a couple of years to get to this point. I got it brand spanking new in 05. Put about 12,000 miles on it first year but something just wasn't clicking right.

I fabbed up a right side exhaust with some head pipes for a late 70's bonny and rode it like that for about a year or so, then fabbed up the springer seat mount and fishtails and 1 1/4" 40+" Big Johnson handle bars (had to cut 5/8" off each end and 3/4" out of middle to get them to look right) and have been riding it like this the last year or two.

Now the Bad NEWS!

Seems like everyone is going whitewall and fringe around here lately, so I needs to change the bikes appearance like NOW! LOL

So I have started on a bobbed build.

now what shall I change first?

I will have pictures to follow soon.

I always thought fringe was for women, I'm even on TV from Laconia saying that to a TV host that I saw trying one on and started laughing at him. he then came over and interviewed me and asked why I was laughing at him.

Fringe looked cool, once! Remember Billy from Easy Rider?

Nowadays...fringe is for ladies and the Village People.

Wow, that jacket looks like it may cost about 30 bucks, what a piece of cheap crap! And it's butt ugly! What kind of leather is that thing made out of? It looks paper thin.
Look at the dude they made model it! He's hating life right now!

well here are a couple of pics of springer seat mount

I made a pan for under the seat as I am still running the stock airbox and wanted to keep it dry when it rains.

The seat itself was easy to install. I got a universal mounting kit from J & P (Harley catalog) and welded the rear pins to frame. I fabbed up a front mount to attatch with the tank hold down bolt

btw

the only fringe

is on the bike

not me LOL

Nice work man, love the fishtails. Lots of bobbed bikes on here, I'm sure you will find lots of ideas. Sucks photopost is down, but if you use the search function you will find some good stuff. Also FriarJohn has a lot of cool pics on his website. Good luck chopping that thing up!

Nice ride

That is one of the most comfortable looking old school solo seats I have seen. White walls? No matter how many people use 'em, they work on some bikes and look like velcro accessories on others. They work on yours.

well I started the transformation

the plastic trash bag around seat and pad is me tarp of past year or so (I need a roof over this thing LOL )

as you can see, I would rather be riding than polishing a lot of chrome LOL

thats me old right side exhaust header in the background.

going to get the new exhaust done tommorro and maybe the tyres too (I hope)

its like 98 degrees but feels like 106 so I am going to relax in the AC

What'd you use the black the fork tubes? Rattle can or powdercoat?

(Looks awesome, btw!)

the lowers I hit with 400 grit emery cloth and then sprayed some rustoleum gloss black on them.

the upper shrouds I sprayed with rustoleum flat black!

if they wear or chip too much, I can always have them powder coated over the winter LOL

the shocks and struts I did in a hurry as I removed them when rear tyre and wheel were off. I will probably regret not sanding them down, but I have a can or two of flat black laying around that I can touch them up with LOL.

Nice!

I've been thinking very strongly about painting the front fork tubes -- last big bits of silver on the bike -- I'll let you know how it goes!

I powdercoated mine semi-gloss black last year. I'd never go back to silver. Black or polished. Silver sucks.

this is before

Quote:

and this is after (sorta )

of course its not done yet, but I had to take it for a quick spin (100 miles or so) to see how it handled LOL

I still plan to cut rear fender about 4" to 6" above current tail light and make a axle mount licence plate/tail light bracket (right side) and deep six them turn signals LOL!

not sure if I will keep the clutch/brake lever covers (they be like 3 years old and all)

and it handled GREAT btw

Looks great, I really dig the blacked out wheels! Did you have those professionally painted, or are you a rattle can specialist?

do you see me XJ (jeep cherokee) in background of the above pic and the ones bellow. I rattle canned its camo paint scheme like a year ago (after some trail damage)

and, I rolled it mid may at the Kansas rocks (KRRP) and had to replace the windershield (after pulling the collapsed roof out)

and I built the bumpers, stingers, sliders, etc. too

but enough of me XJ, don't want to jack me own thread LOL

and the bike and XJ are me daily drivers till my 66 C-10 is going again (rebuilding a 396 for it)
