Ok, Gents (and Ladies) --
I'm going to brave putting in the new clutch springs this weekend before I really mess up the plates. I have the gold springs... this looks like it should be a straightforward bolt-in replacement, yes?
Question, though: as this is a wet clutch, do I need to drain the oil before I pull off the clutch cover? (Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I remember reading somewhere that I had to, and I'd rather not if i can avoid it)

If you lean the bike over to its right side while you pull the cover off, you won't have to drain it. May be easier said than done, though.

Ok, that's what I thought -- I'd rather just replace the oil and do the job right rather than half-as$ the job.
Any other words of wisdom, folks? I saw where Dinqua recommended replacing the 4 10mm bolts holding the springs in -- I'm guessing I can find those locally fairly easilly (I hope).
Anybody else? Bueller? I'm a lousy mechanic, so I'm trying to get as much advice as I can before i do this. I have the shop manual and all that, but... well, you guys often have better input than "conventional" sources.

According to the manual you should never re-use the the 4 spring bolts. Always use new at correct torque. Also, be careful with the oil seal for the gear exchange shaft when re-installing the cover - it is easy damaged. Put som plastic over the end of the shaft to avoid that the splines on shaft cuts into the seal when mounting the cover back on. Hasse

OK. Hey, I just called the local Fastenall shop and asked for "10mm M6x28" bolts and they didn't know what I meant -- weren't sure of the pitch, apparently. Are they "standard pitch" (1.0)?

just make sure the gears dont get moved at all, expecially where the starter is as i got it all back together and the bike would not start. easy fix just a pain. and i would also go with the green springs if your going to go through all that work.

There is a gear in there that turns on a loose shaft between a hole in the cover and a hole in the case. If the pin comes out with the cover, the gear will drop out of place and you won't even know it. There is also a little wavy washer on that shaft. Also, you will need a new cover gasket.
