Bing Aeriel View

Bings Birds Eye View

Google Aeriel View

The above links show various views of one Nica's Market. Bing is a new project by Microsoft. Nice to have viewing options eh? In this case Bing blows away Google.

and now to

Google blurs theirs so they can do google earth pro as a money maker. Looks like MS may have just cut into their market in a big way.

Your choice. Remember in 2006 when the Department of Justice resorted to legal action in an attempt to force Google to surrender a broad sampling of user searches for government inspection? Google told them to pound sand while Microsoft, Yahoo, and AOL meekly and voluntarily forked it right over. From Google's defense statement:

"The privacy of Google users matters, and Google has promised to disclose information to the government only as required by law," the brief says. "The privacy and anonymity of the service are major factors in the attraction of users--that is, users trust Google to do right by their personal information."

Remember when the Internet was young, Google didn't exist and we had about a dozen flimsy search engines? We never would have imagined having something like any of these products.

You mean like Veronica and Archie? Or am I showing my age?

The Bing satellite view is more than 10 years old, at least where I live. They also translate CR (Cury Road) to Creek, which is what Google maps does. Makes me think they stole some old castoff maps from Google.

I started in computers when VI was the greatest editor around. Our Scicard proprietary Unix (system V) were upgraded to 20 meg hard drives and we had video monitors where we displayed graphics and right beside them text monitors where we used VI. These were the first crude printed circuit design systems. WHOOO WHOOO!

I can't remember the name of the DEC search engine we though was so cool. My circuits are blown.

You guys didn't even mention google street view. Screw aeriel at an angle. Google wins this battle hands down. Just click and drag the little orange guy that's above the zoom bar on the map to whatever street you want. You can see the storefront of nica's.

I didn't see our bikes sitting outside though. Dang I miss motorsickle trekking. July. Give it till July moe.

Regarding google street view, yes it is the bestest. But for those places where that funny car with the antenna was not, bing is a nice option for when google also doesn't have clear images in an aerial view.

This is one place where neither search engine captures images like this. No street view either. But Google does have pictures posted by users. A big plus.
