Once again my 06 America is down for a rear flat tire. I travel down a dirt road that I think use to be a dumping ground to get to my house. I'm thinking of buying the tools to break down the tire and replace the tube myself from now on. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which tire iron is better than another and any tips on duing this or is it just better to let the motorcycle shop do it?

'06 America, Raask foot controls, the bike use to be Graphite and Silver, now its Red and Black.

I used to carry tools and a spare tube when I was riding Japanese bikes years ago. Almost any bike shop should have what you need. There's nothing critical about the tire irons or the procedure in my experience. One thing - my bikes all had a centerstand that could lift the rear wheel off the ground. Don't know whether the aftermarket stand for our bikes lifts the front or the rear.

You can get some decent tire irons and a 'rim saver' (Good to have, especially with cast rims) from J&P cycles. I have used roadside materials piled up under the frame to lift the bike in an emergency. Make a pile, rock the bike over a bit and kick it under. Then do the same on the other side, but a bit higher. repeat until the wheel is off the ground.
