After reading LanceD's reply to my close call thread and friars reply it made me wonder if our kickstands have a lock nut on all of them. Could someone tell me please, if they do, i'll need to find a nut. The bolt looked to be really fine threaded.

According to the schematic on the Bike Bandit web site, my 2002 should have a nut. I seem to recall that it does, but I haven't run out to the garage to check. http://www.bikebandit.com/triumph-motorcycle-america-2002/o/m17595

Yeah John, I went out to the garage and found that there's a nut on my bike's kickstand anchor bolt. (and yeah I know ....whenever I'm riding my bike around, there's a nut on my bike's seat too!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Yep. There's a nut (at least there is on my '03 SM). It's fairly thin (about 1/4 inch thick) for it's size, and the threads barely come flush to the end of the nut. So, I can see that if the nut weren't there, it would look like the bolt wasn't long enough for a nut to fit. It looks like a fairly poor design as the spring scrapes against one side of the nut every time you put the stand out (or in). I'm surprised more of them don't just work themselves loose.
Seriously, if you're reading this, check this on your bike.
Stone, yours is probably sitting in a parking lot somewhere...

My 2008 has a thin, 3/8" thick self-locking nut on it. The self-locking part of the nut didnt look to be grabing the bolt threads (by much anyway) and was not on by much more than snug. Put it back on with Blue Threadlocker juice.
The locking nut you get for it will have to be thin to clear the spring tab on the kickstand.
LanceD, my bike is on the jack so I went out and checked to see if the spring hit the nut when raising the kickstand. It cleared, but not by much. Would it be possible to bend those spring ends in just a little to clear the nut?

Well, the good new is that they "only" cost $4.70 each from BikeBandit.com, plus shipping. The bad news is that it will take 3-6 weeks for delivery.

all joking aside.....we should all go out to our garages, sheds, parking stalls, wherever we keep our bikes and check our nuts ASAP! They dont need to be huge just tight and close to the frame.

And for F*** sake, keep the spring away from them, or you may end up leaving them on the road somewhere.

dude...I hate it when that spring catches the nut so many times it falls off and youy dont even notice till you dissmount. i wonder if putting a rubber on might help keep the nut from falling off....or might it just provide more of a gripping surface?!

Just checked my nut, still there. I even have a spare!
Actually, I did hear a sound of pinging metal hitting the road on a recent ride. I've been all over my bike looking for something missing and other than one carb's heater leads being disconnected, I can't find anything. Hopefully I had just run over something and kicked it up.

If you've had your air box loose (assuming you still have one), check the 2 6mm hex head bolts that go through from under the rear fender. Those are not the easiest bolts to get in or out, and they also have a sleeve, or bushing, that fits between the fender and air box. When I rejetted recently I noticed that my local shop tech had replaced the stock bolts and bushings with phillips head screws that had a washer-like head. I had no choice but to put them, back in, as I no longer had the stock fasteners. Now they're gone. (fell out?) It sure felt like they were seated and torqued in....now I get to order the stock bolts and bushings and put them in myself this time. He must have done that when adjusting the valves and changeing my pilot jets a while back, and they held fine until I pulled them out, but they're gone now. That would be #s 16 and 24 in this schematic on Bike Bandit. Air Box

Go to home depot and get a #10 metic nut. it's a little bigger then the stock nut but it will work well with lock tight

This Spring, I had to replace the spring on my kickstand. It had gotten weak enough so if I hit a bump it would drop down enough to drag on corners. Originally thought it was front brakes. My dealer had one in stock!!!!
