Has any one had a sticky return? Did my valves got bike all back together and had to adjust the cables at the carb to get it to return. A buddy of mine on his 05 SM has gone through 2 sets of cables. I am now all most out of adjustment on the return cable. Any ideas. Going on a 3200 mile trip to Banff and do not want problems. Thinking of replacing the cables.

you asked about sticking throttle cables. if they are sticking, adjustment would have a negligible effect. since you are adjusting them I'll suggest that chances are you may have twisted the throttle cables somewhere down the line. Or, take a gander at the wire cable retainer located at the top triple tree. if the throttle cable is outside of that it will appear too short and race the engine at steering full right lock.

I did have them out of the cable retainer . But if i tight the return lock nut at carb with any thread left at top of cable it will not return. I am thinking cable is bad.

I don't think it would suddenly go bad like that. Will it return by manually twisting throttle back? If it was me, I'd take the tank back off and go back and double check everything.

There are quite a few things that can cause a sticky return. Cables routed wrong causing them to binde, freyed cable, gummed up old lube, throttle grip rubbing on the bar end, crud under the throttle sleeve, Sleeve not in the housing right, cable not engaged in the sleeve right, weak spring, misadjustment, that's what comes to mind, probably missed a couple.

The return where cable meets the 90 seems to be a little bent out of wack. That is why I may repplace them.

Try loosening the throttle assembly on the bars slightly - this seems to bind up a lot.

I got it to go by putting the lock nuts at carb on return all the way in to last of its therads. Play in handle is good so I am going to put bike back together. I still may replace them.

Put tank on and at rt. stop binds, adjusted some more at handle working ok now. Could I have screwed them up when I lifted the handle bars up to check and grease bearing? Pulled on them? Ian I did have a routing roblem after test ride (valves adjust Tues) I got home and cables were on side of tank. This all started when I noticed that the adjusting nuts at carb were loose. I tighten them and that is when all this went down hill with a wide open throttle. I think it was the cray shop I took it to last year. Sure I would not fubar it.
