Anyone have any experience with Kenda tires? The reviews I've found seem good and the price is awesome for the K671 Cruiser tires.

Ron, With Kenda you get what you pay for. imho they are the bottom of the line.

Moe,
They are priced like that for sure. I did have good luck with my Avons but I want a better rain tire. It's confusing cause I've read many reviews on Dunlop, Michelin and Metzlers and they're mixed. The Kenda actually had better reviews then all of them which surprised me. Sometimes the get what you pay for mantra isn't always true. With such a critical item as tires I guess it's better safe than sorry though.

Any recommendations for a good rain tire with good wear characteristics?

I'm running K673's and think they are awesome! I have run Dunlop 404's and Metzeler ME880's prior to the Kenda and IMHO the Kenda beats them hands down! Great traction wet or dry and great mileage so far. I wore out Dunlops in about 5000 miles, and Metzelers in about 8000 miles, simply because i am a rather aggressive rider, and so far i've put over 7000 miles on the Kenda's with plenty of tread left to go. I'll post pics shortly.

That's interesting because I saw simalar reviews from several sites. I must have read 30 reviews and not one negative thing to say. I'm going to continue to research these tires.

7000 miles on the front, 8000 miles on the rear. (i went to a smaller size on the front after 1000 miles, due to rubbing at high speeds)
Fully 3mm tread depth left in the middle of rear, 6mm on the sides, and 3mm in middle of front with 4mm on the sides.
This is my 3rd set of footpegs in under a year. I hate scraping those Sceptres!

Haven't these guys been making bicycle tires for 80 years or do I have them mixed up with someone else? I think Kenda makes Cooper tires for Bridgestone or who ever owns them now.The price is certainly good and if they perform, I'll try them. Not everything that is higher priced is automatically better.

If you go to their Website it says they've been in business since 1962. It appears they've been making bicycle tires a long time. They're heavy into Motocross and sponsor a race team.

No way would I risk my life on Chinese tires. Ride 'em long enough, and you will indeed get what you paid for.

Suit yourself. These are billed as a premium tire, and i'm inclined to agree.

If you ride on Metzlers tyres, mine were made in Brazil.

Is Brazil any better than China.

What a lot of people tend to forget is that a lot of products out of China are made in American or European owned companies.

Seems we have mixed feelings about these tires. I'm not a fan of Chinese products either. I'll have to think long and hard before I'd buy these. Basically on principle I'd rather buy another brand made elsewhere.

Don't tell that to the Chinese made computer you're using to post with, it may crash on you

I have a Kenda Kruz rear tire on my 'other' bike and it's held up well, rain or shine. My sometime riding buddy has been running them for years on his bike, no problems, I'd say it's a pretty good tire from my limited exposure.

i was talking out of my d&d cones... zero hands on experience with kenda motorsickle tires. Kenda mountain bike tires I do have hands on experience with: poor tread life, easily punctured, and they had a slight tendency to squirm too much on the rim.

I appreciate you chiming in on your experience with kendas. Sounds like the kenda motorcycle tires (at least the model you mounted) are a much better tire than I gave them credit for. You learnt me something.

I'm using a Kenda 673 rear tire now. 3K miles so far. Very little wear.
No traction problems either.
And the price is right.

Yes. An order of magnitude.

Only within the parameters determined by the owner. The owner determines quality of materials, labour duration, production proceedure ... and price point. In the case of western companies producing in China their price point is often inflated because of their recognised brand - while an unknown Chinese brand is often produced to the the same specs in the same factory but with a much lower price point.

It has been my experience visiting factories in China that A) those which are joint-ventured with foreigners are prohibited from distributing their products through other means, domestically or otherwise, B) those which are based on domestic distribution are prohibited from selling overseas, and C) factories which sell for purposes of private labelling to the West (such as you describe) are not foreign-owned. There are exceptions, of course, but this represents the great majority of operations. In any event, I stand by my statement that the worker - not the owner - exerts ultimate control of quality. I know this because I have worked in manufacturing and understand the processes involved, and because every Chinese product I have owned that was marketed by a name brand company has failed prematurely, and most additionally performed more poorly than expected during their lifetime.

I believe you are both right. The worker can only make a product as good as the materials and machines provided by the owner. The owner can supply good machines and supplies but only get a product as good as the worker is capable of.

"Our factories in Asia (Taiwan, China, Vietnam)..." That's not where our bikes are made, and although Taiwan could probably turn out similar or better qualilty, the cost to Triumph would be considerably higher. Same for the tires. You're riding on Chinese or Vietnamese quality control. I'll pass.
