What do you all use to clean the visor of your helmets with?I have a Scorpion EXO helmet that is in need of cleaning bugs off of. Will windex or other glass cleaner damage the plastic?

Good question, don't use household glass cleaners - they will eventually fog the plastic. I use "Novus" brand plastic cleaners, available at most bike shops. It is made for plastic windscreens and shields. $4 for a bottle at my local H-D dealer.
I wear a Scorpion EXO myself. (200 model)

I use Pro Honda Spray Cleaner and Polish click on every part of my bike and helmet. It works great and leaves a clean and smooth surface. I get it at the nearest motorcycle shop (unfortunately not a Triumph dealer!).

I have a Wee Willy Cleaning kit but more often than not, and I'll admit this is probably horrible, when I'm on the road I use the windshield squeegee thing at the gas station. While I do get some fine scratches occasionally, I don't get fogging in the plastic. I buy a new shield every 2-3 years. http://www.weewilly.com/

Take a wet rag and drape it over the bug-encrusted part for a while.(Three beers time should do) After that it will clean up with almost anything.

I use the same stuff that I clean the bike with. It's called Miracle Wash and it is a waterless wash and polish. It works great on metal paint, plastic and glass. Miracle WashIt works really good on my helmets shield. Tom

Use a soft wet towell to get the big stuff off- do not use a circular motion! Go back and forth and up and down. Finish with the plexiglass safe cleaner.

If you keep a coat of wax (I use Mother's Carnuba Cleaner Wax) on it, the bugs come off easy with a wet soft towel. Then wipe dry. Same way I keep my bike's windshield clean.

That's exactly right! And instead of wastin' this natural source of nutrients, scrape 'em off into a baggie and stash 'em under the seat. Then, on your next Iron Butt ride, just add hot water for a nourishing, time-saving meal. Yuuummmm!

Plexus is great stuff for plastics - requires little if any polishing. Spray it on, wipe if off. A pre-rinse with water to remove any grit is never a bad idea either. It even leaves a coat of wax like stuff when you're done.

Spit has been reccomended for bugs. Hock a loogie right on the bug, let it soak for a bit to loosen it up, then something soft should do it.
Before a long ride, I grab a handful of eye glass cleaners the wife has. They look like handi wipes and are safe on whatever. Work well on laptops too. One or two in the pocket, a couple more in the bags. Done.

I've used Lemon Pledge for a few years now. Works great, and you get that lemon scent working against the helmet sweat smell.

I also use Pro Honda Spray Cleaner and Polish.
Not scratch to be found on my visor (Shark RSX).
Good stuff for a quick clean of the bike, as well.

As always its everyone to their own.. I personally think that a cruiser rider "looks" the part in a open face or even a beanie.
I have seen people riding Speedys with FULL sports bike gear on, armour trousers, jacket and fullface which I think spoils the look of the bike.

Yeah, an overweight guy in a doo-rag, leather vest, chains, etc. doesn't look right on a sports bike - even if he puts his left hand on his hip.

But an open-face can spoil the look of your face.

ooeerr what have I started.. I agree riding with an open face and having an accident can spoil your face.. however, falling off the kerb can also hurt your face. Im all for safety... but if you start down the route of "what if" then really we shouldnt ride bikes, drive cars or leave the house.. As I said above, its a personal choice and while I personally dont like to see cruiser riders in full gear I wouldnt argue with someone if they felt safer wearing it. And I hope the same goes for those that do wear it towards me NOT wearing it.. on that note I do wear kevlar jeans as the thought of sliding down the road on me backside dont appeal to me. As for the topic I polish

A helmet with a face shield and a windshield serve different purposes. The former is for safety and the latter for comfort, to get the wind (and foreign objects) off my chest. I rode without a windshield for many years (always with a fullface helmet) and took enough rocks and grasshoppers in my man boobs at 75-80mph. My Windvest hardly turns my America into a Goldwing but it makes a big difference.

and on the other hand I think all those leather clad, skull cap, leather vest, hiker boot, chaps wearing wannabe 1% looking people are going to be in a world of hurt when they loose their skin cause that cager was texting and "didnt see them" while making that left turn in front of them. Sorry if I offended anyone. I dont lecture anyone but I do wear my full face, kevlar pants, Sidi boots and gloves and jacket every time! Heck...sometimes I even wuss out and wear my heated gloves

So....how did this V-sponge work out? The Honda Polish mentioned earlier is awesome stuff. Ive never used it on my helmet but it works great on the bike!
I have always used Plexus on my windsscreen and face shield (or is it sheild).

Good summary. I rode 100% of the time with my windshield, 1/2 helmet and glasses. Later, I bought a 3/4 helmet and started taking the windshield off. I love riding non-interstate without the windshield (so much, I bought a removable windshield). Interstate work with no windshield is tolerable, but I have to say it is not much fun. Riding with a beanie helmet and glasses is miserable to me. The windblast alone drove me nuts. Quote:
