I was just in the thunderbird create my triumph thing. I was disappointed 88 accessory's and there were only 2 or 3 I would buy. It was all chrome stick on junk. I guess they really are going after Harley with this. I hope they come out with a black sporty one in the future or at least black covers. It does make a nice blinged out bagger if thats your thing.
Life need a little Triumph!

Why don't they offer the America/Speedmaster with a big bore kit if they are planning to offer one with the Thunderbird? Especially, when you consider how many are already doing it with after market kits.

probably for that reason, we do it anyway and probably for less than what they could offer

I don't know why they don't come with the bigger bore anyway. The additional cost from the factory would be virtually zero.

Seriously -- considering how easy the 904 kit is to install, I can only imagine the factory could do it cheaply from the get-go. ******, make it an even 1L and be done with it, right? Oh well. Just keeps the mechanics in work. --Jaeger

Which is of course what the 'boid should have been; a 1000 to 1200cc air-cooled upgrade path for the BA/SM market.

Nah Jackson! THAT should have ALWAYS just been a simple FACTORY friggin' upgrade for the BAs, Speedies and ALL the Bonneville derivatives! Along with of course an upgraded suspension package. And THEN these bikes of our would've been near PERFECT right out of the showrooms!!!
The 'Boid should be JUST as it appears in the pics I've seen, but...and here it comes again...WITH MORE FRIGGIN' FINS!!! And then IT TOO would look nearly as "perfect" as our bikes already look, and once our bikes' production run is over, which will be when air-cooled engines can no longer meet the ever increasing noise and emission control regulations worldwide, THEN the 'Boid would be ready to take it's place in the marketplace for another decade or more after that.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

You wonder why they only increased the displacement from 790 to 865? Does Triumph feel they are sacrificing reliability with a larger displacement. Seems the bikes run fine in the larger engine sizes.
From what I can see, the engine is severely undersquare. They could easily increase the crank throws 6 mm (similar to the 988 kit)with no case modes to help. A Triumph endorsed displacment kit also makes sense from a dealer installation point of view. They would get the profit with the sale and install. Triumph could provide a crank, larger displacment cylinders/pistons, etc etc. This could be used by both 360 and 270 engines.
It seems all the design work has already been done. What are they waiting for????

Yep, it all makes perfect logical sense but does that mean it's gonna happen Perhaps like Harley they are trying to introduce new riders to the smaller bikes ie sportser, SM etc before they hope they'll want to progress into the BIG LEAGUE. More money for them that way but only as long as the riders feel they need the extra power. If they encourage us to increase our displacements on our TBA/SM's etc then maybe we/they won't feel like we need any extra power Just a thought
