Bonneville America Forums Forums Technical Forums General Tech Cap on Right Side of Engine?

I was cleaning my 07 America yesterday morning, and noticed a gap between a cap or plug on the right side of the engine next to the serial number and it looked melted. Called my local shop and could not reach them on phone. Went to check out bike bandit to locate this part. Bike bandit listed a bunch of variations for crankcases and some had what looked like a cap or plug and some didn't. The hole on casing is beveled and I don't know what the purpose is. Can anyone help me out hear? I went to the hardward store and put a small rubber plug in it. I warmed up the bike and it seamed to work. I am heading out in two weeks for long riding weekend and will probably put 500-600 miles on my bike and don't want to have an issue.

I went down to look at mine and I have a bolt on either side of the serial #. Theres a small black plug a little further back. On the 07 its not used for anything. On earlier years it was used as a wire loom holder. Those wires have since been re-routed under the motor.

This was addressed her last week.
