OK, I know that there are a few out there that have had issues with the TPS sending a crap signal and causing premature engine shutdown at under redline.... My 03 speedy started shutting down at redline instead of just dropping a cylinder and then the engine started cutting out intermittently about 7000 RPM.... Well, disconnected the TPS today and the bike seems to have more power than it has ever had since I bought it last June.. Just wondered if everyone that has disconnected their TPS has left it unhooked, or eventually replaced it..... Is there any issue with leaving it disconnected? I kind of assume that there is not an issue since if you get flat slides or other aftermarket carbs, you dont have one to hook up.... Mark

It would be a totally out of warrantee thing to adjust but: Quote:
TPS readings from a showroom bike are (with the idle adjustment completely slacked off): Blue & Yellow wires = 4.42K OHMS (4.40-4.44) closed throttle & 1.38K OHMS (1.36-1.40) wide open throttle. Black & Yellow wires = 0.81k OHMS (0.79-0.83) closed throttle & 3.96k OHMS (3.94-3.98) wide open throttle.
Who's to say yours isn't just a wee bit out of adjustment?

I've left mine disconnected for several months of riding with no problems. I disconnected it last summer because the bike would cut out at times off idle just like it was hitting the rev limiter as you stated. Checked the TPS resistance readings and things were messed up probably due to some water getting inside after washing the bike. The few times I have hooked it back up things work well... My main reason for not hooking the TPS back up permanently is that the bike doesn't pop on decel with it disconnected which is something I really like. The CDI unit was just modded to run up to 8500 rpm by Pieman. I haven't reached the cut off point yet to see if it shuts down the same as before (No need to rev the bike that high since it runs out of steam around 7600 rpm). Adjustment for TPS is in the Tech vault or on Pieman's website http://www.triumphtwinpower.com/tps_adjustment.php

My guess is that a totally incorrect reading from the TPI would send the ignition to an advance curve that is unprogrammed. With the TPI unplugged, it will only select one curve, probably a generic one specially for a TPI failure.

Well, I checked the readings, and it was off... I adjusted it and now it shuts down around 7200-7300, instead of at 7000.... Still not where it should be... I did not find any eroneous data coming from the pot.... Oh well, I will see how it runs on our 1500 mile trip next week... If it acts up, then I will just unplug it again and leave it that way...

You can't replace the TPS. You have to buy new carbies.

Mine has been disconnect for several years. It started acting up and shutting down and I just disconnected it and left it that way. No problems since.
