Roadworthy was just talking about not needing one with his new intake manifold. And somebody else said they didn't have one for a long time on a bought used bike. It's possible, but not a real good idea-puts strain on the "super durable rubbers". Besides for $30 it's a cheap fix.

It's true, the new billet intakes are a lot more solid of a mount for the carbs, and you probably could get away with no brace on them, but why chance it. Mine are still braced from underneath with the newspeedmaster airbox eliminator. You may be able to call Sean at British Customs and buy a brace from him, they are anodized billet aluminum and it attaches to the rear motor mount to hold the carbs up.

A turnbuckle works really well and if you like shiny get a stainless one from a place that works on boats or supplies boat parts.

I've been using a zip-tie to provide some vertical support for several thousand miles -- seems to work fairly well, though the pods occasionally vibrate off. Easy fix to clamp 'em back on. That said, yeah, I'm in the market for a proper brace too. I like the one pictured on the British Performance site -- just made an order from there, acutally -- but they don't sell it separately. There's one on newspeedmaster.com, but it looks like you need to split the carbs to get it on, which is a pain -- and frankly, $30 seems a wee bit steep for a stamped metal part. --Jaeger

Bellacorse sells a nice turnbuckle style brace. Well built, easy to install, and works very well. Is a little expensive but a great product.

turnbuckle is the best way I say. Who cares about some piece of metal for $30 when a 50cent turnbuckle will do. Its not gonna make or break your "show" bike...haha You can barely see the freaking thing.

My B-C AEK didn't include a carb brace. The metal edge of the K&N pods rests on support for the side covers/graters.
The use of another filter would probably require a carb brace.

How/where does a marine or hardware store turnbuckle hardware mount or hook onto the carb assembly? Just trying to visualize what it looks right so I get the right one.

it doesnt have to be a marine turnbuckle, whatever that is. I just got one from home depot. Its like a 3/8" or something pretty small. One ends hooked and the other has an eyelet. You can bend it out if you can find one like that. The eyelet side gets bolted to a small hole on top engine mount. The hook extends down and hooks underneath the crossbar connecting the carbs together. You can sorta see it in this pic.

Thanks, I wasn't aware that you could get a turnbuckle with a hook. And that zip-tie idea is brilliant; ghetto, but brilliant.

a few zip ties and some black tape wrapped around an old pencil (if you don't have room for a roll) are 2 things you should have in the tool bag.
