Anyone doing the ride this year? It would be nice not to be the only triumph in a sea of hardlys. Wendell

Hey Wendell,
It's been a while since riding with you. There's a group of us that have ridden in Rolling Thunder every year over the last 6 years. This year there will be at least 10 of us. We ride out with the group from Fort Washington Harley Davidson. Normally they have several thousand riders leaving from that dealership. Since we know the owner of the dealership, we ride with his group which puts us Triumph guys up towards the front of the pack.

If I can get my bike fixed by then I'll be there. Last year my buddies and I rode in with the group from Patriot HD. However, the HD Dealer there in Manassas usually has a huge group as well.
Suggestion: My buddies and I bail out of the group ride before we get to the Pentagon parking lot. We ride down into DC (making out way around behind the White House) and down to Constitution Ave. We park on Constitution and watch the procession in a front row seat. When we get enough we just pull right into the parade ride around the mall then home. This keeps you out of the massive trap that you get in if you go to the Pentagon parking lot.

Clintonian slip there. You have to go around behind the White house to get back to Constitution Ave.

I would love to go, but I'll be riding From Kings Mountain to Raliegh for a wedding. At least I'll get to ride as far on my bike as most of the folks at Rolling Thunder trailer theirs.

I'd love to do it just to say I did, but that's just way too many bikes for my taste.
2005 America, green/gray, gutted stock pipes, tall sissy bar w/ luggage rack, Saddleman's dual touring seat and Tourmaster saddlebags (and sissybar bag).

I know what you mean about the Pentagon parking lot. A few in the group do the same. However I just pack up the saddlebags with the beer and food and go crash and wait laying down by the river until it's our turn to ride. It is interesting to see all the bikes, usually several 100,000 of them....

I didn't do Rolling Thunder this year. However, my son and I rode down to King Street (down by the torpedo factory) in Old Town Alexandria last night and it was INSANE! Slame full of bikes! People were walking around taking pictures of bikes, visiting, swapping lies, etc... All in all a very good time.
On the way home, we swung over to downtown DC and rode around the elipse and the monuments (along with many other bikes). I was really cool doing the basic route ride at night.

Did the ride again this year (6th time). It ended up being only 6 of us. (4 triumphs & 2 harley's) We had a good spot in the parking lot and it only took about an hour and a half before we were able to ride. I did meet another triumph guy (don't remember his name) but he had a Speedmaster and was out of Roanoke. Don't know if he was a member of the board or not. We were back at the house before 3:00 for the beer and cookout. Had a really good time.
