I was on my way home from a stupendous ride--got in 120 miles today. Stopped at a light on Rte 1 between Guilford and Branford, CT -- I hear a familar sound behind me. Sure enough I turn around and there is a young guy on a 2005 Thruxton.

He pulled along side and I said, "I thought I heard something familiar." He said "Oh yeah, different notes of the same chord. It's got a blah blah blah(don't remember exactly what he said) then said it's a 790 with D & D pipes." Just before the light changed I got in, "we refer to it as 800." AT the next light he pulled up and I said, "Actually you mean it's an 865 which we refer to as 900." Then the moron said, "oh no. it's an old one."

Nothing about this bike said old. Not the color scheme, the logos, the lights, NOTHING.

Light changed again. I took off shaking my head. He turned into a parking lot a few yards behind me waving like he taught me something huge. The huge thing is that he must have thought I was some dumb broad on her brother's Triumph.

Yeah Right!

Really Mert, what the heck could a girl possibly know about motorcycles anyway?

A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice. Pat

Don't let it get to you Sheri. Just hope he isn't registered to vote or planning to have children. Did you ever get your helmet sized correctly? Steve

mert, I wouldn't let it worry me a bit. There is those of us who strive to understand the inner working's of these machine's and know the difference between a 790 with a 270 degree crank as opposed to a 360 degree one. There are just as many who would rather not be worried with such trivial matter's. They just want to ride and let someone else worry with such matter's. There's good folks in both groups. I often ride with a friend who barely knows how to put gas in. He's a descent guy and great fun to ride with, he just isn't concerned with mechanical matters and comes to me for help when he's perplexed. When I run into circumstances such as your's I always find it easiest to just say, oh....
Nice bike, have a good ride, and continue on with mine.

I don't want to sound like a moron too ... too late!! ... but was it perhaps a Bonnie with Thruxton bits and bobs on it??

I saw one the opposite way round the other week in the dealer, a guy bought a Thruxton and had the bits on it to make it into a Bonnie looker.

Anyone on a Meridian parallel twin, who makes first mention to anyone else on a Meridian parallel twin about motor size, is a moron. You know, sort of like saying the sun rises in the East.

You should have just smoked the 'boy' at the second stoplight, Mert. That would have given him a few things to think about.

Maybe he was just feeling inadequate. After all a TBA has a little more visual 'attitude' than a Thruxton!

Hey Mark

How about this?

To celebrate the building and opening of the new Burton Albion 'Pirelli' Stadium, the offiicial opeing (1/3rd of the way through the season ??) is a match with ..

... drum roll ...

Man Utd!!!

I have a ticket for the match (14 Nov) and looking at current form , I fancy Burton's chances ...

I think Man Utd will take the p!ss by fielding a team of Muppets.
I doubt the likes of Shrek will play .. nor nutcase Keane.
But hey-ho, it'll be a sell-out and should be good craic!

They have a video link through to the bar so we'll probably stay in there ....

I really doubt that the first prototype, which may have been an 800 but was probably not, was shipped to the US and sold to the general public. So, either he was on a doctored up T100 or Bonneville, or he had no idea what he had. I don't think they made a production 800 Thruxton.

I realize Triumphs adverts are a bit spotty at best, but I'd think a sharp bunch like this would've got wind of an 800 Thrux if there ever were such a beast. I'm leaning toward dolt on bike with no clue, or doctored Bonnie...

790 = 800 ?

That's like the guys in here saying they have a size 10 shoe when it is really only 9 1/2 ...
