Just got back from watching.
I like it!!

More like the old Trek, but of course with modern (for now) techniques.

Highly recommended, you need know nothing (much) about Star Trek to enjoy it.

Been waiting for this, I was hoping they would do a good job. I know what they are going to say before they say it on the original and can answer almost any trivia question that has to to with the show not the actors. Sometimes that hurts the experience when they don't get something right. Like in Tomb Raider I loved playing the game but in the first movie they have her riding a jap bike but in the game it looks like an old Norton.

Previews have looked great, I'm a closet Trekkie. This is supposed to appeal to all folks, Trekkie fans or not.

This is the first Trek movie I've been interested in seeing right off the bat and the trailers have been great. Might be my first in theatre viewing in some time, maybe even make it a 'date night'...the Mrs. will be so pleased...

Saw it with the wife a few hours ago. XXXXXXcellent. Great characterization of all the "known" characters.

Everything done to a T.

Go see it ASAP.

oooh, I can't wait for cheap tuesday. The trailers have looked great and, at least visually, they caught the feel of the original characters.

Good luck.

You'll understand afterward.

And Ed, my wife went with me to see it, and really enjoyed it. She's not a big sci-fi fan either.

Also, a new meaning for "going green".

I haven't been to a theatre in a long time, but this release has got me interested. It's playing at a nearby IMAX for the next couple weeks.

So Jackson, are you gonna ride your Honda to the Imax, and then maybe later have yourself a Fat Tire Ale when you get back home???

(gimpy asked me to ask you that, BTW)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

If you can't handle nerds on Triumphs, then maybe you should go buy a Honda. Cuz there's tons of us on here.

If he really does not want to go buy a Honda.....he can of course learn all about pancakes here as well.

As long as they are not church basement pancakes. Or a Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast.

Trekkie trivia - What was the name of the Commodore killed in the episode "The Doomsday Machine" whose son of the same name later appeared in Star Trek, The Motion Picture as Captain of the Enterprise?

It doesn't fall under the religious prohibition, but it could fall under the broader category of generally offensive.

The overall resonance of the new Trek cant be overstated. Its great.

I wonder though if something is missed for those young pups who are only familiar with the more recent version of Star Trek with Picard and his crew.

Those kids , unless they have watched reruns of the original series or the subsequent movies will not catch the nastalgic interaction of Jim, Bones, Scottie. and Spock....not to mention the other key figures who populate the con.

I played hookie a little yesterday, took a long lunch and went and saw it.
LOOOVED it.
It definitely harkens back to the original series and not just in the characters but the 'feel' of the entire thing - that certain sense of kitsch. And yes I remember watching it in original.
So live long a prosper!

phenomenal cast. the body language, facial expressions,
insights, emotions evoked (even by you know who ,) were
absolutely fantastic.

i was ready to start from the beginning as soon
as closing credits rolled.

Don't know if anyone has posted this here yet but a little trivia about Chris Pine the actor to play Kirk. Guess which actor is his father?

Don't all your friends have to be "different" just to be your friend?

Oh, my friends are all very different. All unique and special little snowflakes.

I'm surprised you didn't go with the "you have friends?" angle or "do you have to pay admission for your friends if they're imaginary?"

The thought crossed my mind but I decided to pick up on the "different" bit instead. The "you have friends" bit has been done too many times.
