It's spring in the mountains... not too many good days to ride. Other days can be spent in the garden, getting it ready to plant, which will be in a couple of weeks. The only problem I'm having are bears coming around. They like digging up my carrots which I left in over winter so they would go to seed in this, their second year. Don't have many left. But this is a serious preoccupation for me. Each year when I return to the garden I remember how much it means to me. I really love it, which is something that just sort of happened later in life. Anyway, here's a pic from my deck (18' above the garden) of a work in progress as I get things ready to plant.
Live to love, love to live.

Nice layout. Our backyard is mostly concrete and pool but I always have room for a few herbs and vegetables and a couple of rose bushes. This year I'm going to try something called "square foot gardening" to make the most of my space.

I love my garden too, hav'nt been out in it for 3 years, it has it's own diverse eco system, what with the elephants the antelopes and the wilderbeasts, tho the neighbours are non to happy about the noise and the slithery things that invade there gardens.

Mine is all preped, going to stick everything in the ground today! All natural no Chemicals. I've been doing it for 19 years and you don't need a green thum. Last year I sold the left-overs to a produce stand and made back twice what I paid for everything and eat fresh free vegs. all summer.

Good point, we got talking about yard & lawn care 5-6 years ago and it caused a minor "rhubarb" .( )
As a result to stay on the forum, I had to buy one of those Harley dewrag things with skulls & assorted body parts to wear while mowing the lawn.
I just finished 12 weeks of teaching/facilitating a master gardener series last week. But wore the same black dewrag, with skulls & assorted body parts to maintain credibility

I think a gardening thread is perfect for this site. I know I personally have spent many relaxing hours harvesting the crops from my favorite beer garden

Nice looking garden. I know what you mean about gardening when we get older. I am not having problems with bears here in Washington, but the weather keeps on nipping. Dave

Well, you can enjoy both beer and Jaffa Cakes - in the garden... (Pic is from Euro Rally #1 in Asendorf, Germany -06)

Try black pepper as a bear and insect repellent. If your bear are like the ones we have around here one snout full of stiff pepper and they loose interest.
