You have one, had one, want one, hate 'em, like 'em, what say you? I read the legends and fables, but how many are out there in Triumphworld?

I don't have one, never did , don't put any stock in it. Wendy does have one. It is supposed to be given to you by a friend and put on by a friend or the magic doesn't work.

Well many years back a Shaman friend of mine told me to put bells in my car, and on the door of my house. Said bad spirits really hate the sound and they don't stick around. Then there's the spirit bell on bikes... similar sort of thing. What do I think? I think they are cool. I mean if a friend gives you one, if nothing else it means they're wishing you safe and happy riding. And just the act of giving is a nice thing to do. You can't lose with a spirit bell so what the heck. They generate good thoughts. I have one to keep me company.

Its all about faith. If you have it then its real and its all good.
Even if you have no faith.....a higher power may still influence the outcome of something bad that occurs. Those without faith will of course scoff at that. But those are the slings and arrows that must be borne.
Nothing wrong with a bell or a cross or a medal of a patron saint.
You still have to watch closely those yo yos who turn left in front of you!
Those who have a faith no that he gives us free will to take all the risks.

A friend at work with a Road King gave me one when I bought the bike. I gave one to Donny a member here when he got a new bike. I don't really believe in it but I just think it's kind of cool to give a little gift to a friend when they get a new bike. Mine has angel wings. It's getting king of grubby though after 30,000+ miles. It's the one thing on the bike that doesn't get waxed or polished.

Whether one agrees with your double post or not, a little bell makes no difference what so ever. But I'm glad to see you're feeling your oats. First trying to interject politics into one thread and religion into another. Glad to see you're feeling your old self.

I have a Shaun the Sheep on my bike. He looks after me. And a I have a tinkle on my bike.... the pad on the side stand is loose and when it rattles, it tinkles like a bell.
And give up with the arguing. Some believe, some don't. Politics.... means nothing to me. Just give it up. Both of you. It's driving people away.

Paul, I have a similar story to yours. A friend of mine with a Fat Boy gave me one, and I gave one to Chris (DunnSpeed) when he got his first bike. It's also the one thing on my bike that doesn't see soap or polish.

Yep. I got mine from Dave(Roadworthy) and while I'm not very superstitious, I admit I would feel wrong without it. It's a part of my bike and always will be.

I wanna say sumpin' but I won't.
Back to spirit bells... bells are cool. They are everywhere throughout many cultures. One of my favorite applications for bells was back in the hippie days when cute girls wore them on their toes. Oh and another application... bells to keep bears at bay when hiking in the bush (I live in the mountains... or did you already guess that). Oh, and bells to let you know when ol' Betsy is around. And bells to be played in music. Remember when phones had bells, and schools too. And the ol' bell tower ringing out the time.
Bells are kool... why not have fun with them, even on our bikes.

well I have zero problems with bells, whistles or what have you .......
If it makes you happy and if in some small way be it for whatever reason makes you feel safer....
Then its all good. The fact that some might have some sense of near religious significance associated with a bell is AOK with me and so is speaking about it.
I know lots of people with statues of patron saints on there dashboards. It would be a callous act to belittle them for it.

I like bells in general, also. They are just cool. How about the Liberty bell? A cool part of history. My house has a two story tower room attached, and I put a bell tower on the top, with a cord that threads down through the roof so it can be rung from the second floor. I never do ring it, (except when some kids come over), but I just like the idea that I can! I don't have any bells on my bikes, but I have small crosses that dangle from the handlebars on thin, braided wire. I saw this done on another couples bike while on a day trip, and I just liked it. It's a small declaration of a little bit of who I am, and I confess, it gives me some comfort. And I think that's the thing. Superstition or not, bells and crosses give a little spot of comfort for a hobby that we all know is dangerous. Although I confess, a big, chrome, deer grill would make me feel even better, but I can't figure out how to attach one to the forks!

Had a bell on some bikes, no bell on others. If a riding bud gives me a bell, cool, it stays on the bike. If no bell, no biggie I ride anyway. Aesthetically, hey its just a bell! I have seen FAR WORSE on bikes that people cherish and gush over. As to those who are somehow upset over this...

A lot of people think that the spirit bell started as a jesture of good luck, but in reality it was actually first used as an anti theft device. Back in the day bikers useds to hide a bell in an inconspicous place, where any movement, such as standing it up, would make it ring. Since then it has evolved into a good luck trinket.

Well a woman who'll kiss on the very first date Is usually a hussy. And a woman who'll kiss on the second time out Is anything but fussy. But a woman who waits 'til the third time around, Head in the clouds, feet on the ground! She's the girl he's glad he's found--she's his Shi-Poo-Pi! Shi-Poo-Pi! Shi-Poo-Pi! Shi-Poo-Pi! (sorry....I thought we were all gonna sing selections from "The Music Man" now!!!)

Ring Them BellsRing them bells ye heathen from the city that dreams Ring them bells from the sanctuaries cross the valleys and streams For they're deep and they're wide And the world on its side And time is running backwards And so is the bride.
Ring them bells Saint Peter where the four winds blow Ring them bells with an ironhand So the people will know Oh it's rush hour now On the wheel and the plow And the sun is going down upon the sacred cow.
Ring them bells Sweet Martha for the poor man's son Ring them bells so the world will know that God is one Oh the shepherd is asleep Where the willows weep And the mountains are filled with lost sheep Ring them bells for the blind and the deaf Ring them bells for all of us who are left Ring them bells for the chosen few Who will judge the many when the game is through Ring them bells for the time that flies For the child that cries When innocence dies.
Ring them bells Saint Catherine from the top of the room Ring them from the fortress for the lilies that bloom Oh the lines are long and the fighting is strong And they're breaking down the distance between right and wrong. wellthisisabellforumandbobiscool

THIS is Bob Dylan, Ring Them Bells. from OH MERCY. there is also a heart wrenching version on Tell Tale Signs; the most recently released Bootleg Series. you're right, btw, it is some serious writing.

Ryan gave me a bell for Vera Lynn while he Matt and I where at the Iron Horse Saloon a ways back. Cinnamon girl came with taminator's bell. That bell must have been at 110% as it seems to have latched hold of an evil spirit, riding same through eternity, as all that remains is the ring that secured it to the frame.

This is the first I've heard of "spirit bells". I had heard of "gremlin bells", which, I guess is a similar idea, except that the gremlin bells are supposed to scare away the gremlins and keep you safe from mechanical problems.
You have to get them from a friend, and they have to have been "seasoned" on that friend's bike.
