Hello all,
I currently have a Yamaha V-Star. Until recently
I didn’t know that there was a Triumph dealership within
500 miles of my home. Upon discovering a Triumph booth at
a local bike show, I scheduled a test ride on the
09 America and was quite impressed.

I’m sure that once I’ve had time to search and read
your forum that I will have quite a few questions.

A note from the pit of the void that used to be the mind of,
Rev

Welcome. Ask whatsoever you will. Facts can be found in the tech vault. Opinions are in the rest of the forums.

Not too far from you during the week, York, SC. Home most weekends in Salisbury NC.

Have a '09 America, love it! Which dealer had the booth set up? If it was Triumph Of Charlotte, they're pretty good people. They host the Charlotte RAT Pack.

Any questions, ask away, on or off list.

Oh, yeah, welcome to the forum. Real good people here.

So how far are you guys from Greenville, SC? I'm ready to rack up some miles and meet some more "locals".

It was Triumph of Charlotte. Oddly enough located not in
Charlotte but Matthews. I know that they are great
folks out there. The first day I visited was a Monday and
they were closed, but the sales manager was working on his
off day and let me in to look at the bikes. I left not only
impressed with the bikes but also the people involved.

rev, Harley Davidson of Charlotte is also in Mathews, just north of 465. They must have once been in Charlotte, and just moved to be more convenient? I don't think you'll go wrong with MoC (Triumph). Mark and Gail, the owners, take customer service seriously. They are also real nice people.

The Charlotte RAT Pack seem like a good group, also. I haven't met any of them yet, in person, just on their Yahoo group and by email. Their meetings just haven't been held when I can get there. And, to be honest, most of them, from what I can gather, are more street bike riders (Daytonas, Triples, and the Classic models). I'm not aware of another America rider.

mrt, I'm about 2 hours away. Maybe the 3 of us could hook up together sometime. Cowpens or vicinity would be about half way for you and I.

Trust me, you will love the Triumph. The OL had a V Star for about a year and only put 35 miles on it.

Welcome aboard Rev, Make the switch. The sooner you do, the sooner you will desire another triumph (the more i look the more addicted i get). Do you think a speedmaster (black) would make a great wedding anniversary gift for my wife? I do.

I rode both the Speedmaster and the America, and was far
more comfortable on the America. I like to ride and have
put over 12K miles on my V-Star since I bought it 11 months
ago. What I desire is a plush recliner on two wheels and a
10 gallon tank so that I am comfortable on a 500 mile ride
and don’t have to spoil it by looking for a filling station.

It is over my budget but I loved the feel of the Rocket III,
and I am curious as to how the new Thunderbirds are
going to rate.

I'd meet up with ya'll, if I ever get a day off. Speaking of Cowpens, there is a bike rally up there in August.

Gidday Rev,

I had a 650 V-Star before my 09 America. I loved the V-Star - they have a rock solid engine and are easy to ride. But when I test rode the America I was sold. It handles better, no vibration, has 60% more power (than the 650) is even better built and will have a longer life than the V-Star.

However, I do find the America harder to ride at very slow speed on tight turning circles - the V-Star feels like it has a lower COG, and the chain drive is more of a hassle.

But I wouldn't go back - the Triumph is brilliant. Fuel mileage is better than the V-Star but not so much that you won't have to fill up every 180 miles or so.

Cheers, Richard
