I would like to thank GILL in cooperation with Triumph, for creating a monopoly re electrical components for our bikes. Not an oligopoly, but a bonafide Monopoly.
THANK YOU GILL THANK YOU TRIUMPH
Were it not for your mutual trade agreement(s), we would be able to purchase electrical components at market prices. Thank goodness you charge us 500% over market as I would get into a lot of trouble having all the cash in my pocket were it not for your kind and generous considerations.

What electrical components do you need Moe?
Coils - you can get better coils from Boyer or Pazon Plug wires = Brent has NGK and Nology.
All other components would be very tough to get.

There's always something else available. Probably better quality to boot.

Problem is Bill, no one I know is willing to take the plunge and try a different ignitor. I don't blame them as I wouldn't either until someone can map what's in ours.

Oh, i dunno. They gotta make a buck, and take my experience with the triump monopoly for example.......whats wrong with $43 for a replacment steering lock KEY? After all, a key must be really tough to make and the materials alone have gotta be what, 5 to 10 cents? So i'd like to thank triumph too. Without them i'd have had enough money for dinner tonite, and god knows i need to lose weight, so the triumph monopoly has been a blessing ! Right now i'm saving up for a replacemnet screw. Hopefully by summer........

True enough, that! We'll just have to wait 'till someones ignitor craps out and he has to find out. What's that? Derek? YEAH!!! he could do it .
Seriously though Derek, you might start by talking to some bike wrenches in your area. You might also see if you can find out who makes the parts. I really doubt that a manufacturer would make such a limited amount as just for our bikes (and I'm sure Triumph don't make their own). Maybe Chy could help, he is a parts guy after all .

I would guess the problem is there just have not been enough of these bikes sold to justify someone going to the trouble of developing a good aftermarket igniter. Even if everyone here promised to buy one im not sure it would pay for development and production. Least not anything made in america. Maybe if we could get the chinese involved..>>>>>>

That's where Procom gets their igniters made for the Bonneville...China. But there's a bit bigger demand for those since they can up the rev limit on those. Our bikes don't seem to take to that mod well. I know Jojje "The Mad Turbo Swede" has tried. Brent sells Procom igniters for Bonnevilles, $189. He's trying to get procom to offer one up for our bikes, and I'd imagine it'd be close to the same price. I'd certainly dive on that grenade and take one for the team by testing out a Procom CDI. My bike sure isn't going to start running without one, and that $550 or so Triumph wants for a new one is a tad steep...and at the moment a real wallet buster for yours truly.

Building an ignition for the 360* engine shouldn't be too difficult, as the various pieces needed already exist in the aftermarket. But, handling that 270* offset firing order gets a little tricky. Not having some sort of triggering off a 1/2 rotational speed camshaft hurts.
The main thing a stock box does is take one signal from the crank, bump it up in power, then send it to #1 cylinder. In the meantime, part of that signal is delayed the proper amount and then used for cyl. #2.
The signal is modified for some advance curve, some retarding for starting, and some advancing for part throttle performance (throttle position switch).
The modifying of the timing is not critical nor difficult, but that delaying for #2 cyl. certainly is.
But just getting a replacement box is not what is really needed. What IS needed is a higher output ign. box that allows one to run larger plug gaps. That's the key to more power - bigger gaps.
That kind of box, along with higher output coils and better plug wires, would really be a great improvement for the twin cyl. engines.

Always a catch, ain't there? .
I was just thinking that you might have some ideas on researching the manufacturer of the parts and some other possible applications that might cross over .

Dale, Someone has found key blanks for our ignition and steering locks. I bookmarked the page on a different puter, so I'll post it later. Found it... Member Speedy23 Quote:
Ignition: Yamaha - ILCO YH47 (X119) Steering lock: Volvo - SILCA NE10".....useful stuff to know.
