Lately I've been looking into helmet security. It seems rare that anyone would fool with a parked cycle, but I get a hincky feeling leaving the helmet hanging from the bars, or on the ground, and it is a PITA to lug it with you. Has anyone had a helmet robbed or molested? Does anyone use locks of any type? What say you, lads......

So... you are looking for fish for your helmet, hmmmm. I used to leave mine just lay on the ground or on the seat if I thought it was gonna rain back when I still wore one. Never had one stolen but my friend did when he was with me once.

Based on simple demographics, the largest number of potential thieves are Harley riders. You can make the helmet unattractive to those persons by stenciling in large letters on both sides of the helmet "Harley Sucks." Once you do that, you'll never have to worry about carrying the helmet around at your destination.

Where I live no one wears helmets anyway, so I'm hoping no one steals mine for that reason. If I feel I need to get a lock, I always thought the ones on the ends of the grips looked nice. I think Kuryakyn makes them.

I've worn a helmet 43 years without locking it up,just hang it on the bike some where.I figure the type of a-hole that would steal a helmet would'nt use one so its safe.

well he's from central new jersey so I dont blame him I feel your pain...haha I carry mine around with me where its busy. Im not worried really about losing it cause it was cheap, I just dont want to be stuck somewhere debating whether or not to ride home and risk getting a ticket. A little pad lock thru a hole somewhere never hurt. I sometimes lock mine on the little pad lock i have on my tool box Riding a "different" brand bike has its disadvantages sometimes when youre around people that dont like those who stand out from the herd.

I don't want anyone walking off with my $150 Scorpion helmet so I do this. Cost me nothing, just an extra luggage lock that was laying in a drawer.

I use one of these...(trigger lock) Available at most sporting goods or Wally worlds for about $5- and enough cable to reach thru the spokes (dual protection)

i used to sling mine over the mirror or use a little cable lock to secure my jacket as well.
Since mounting a luggage rack i've stuck a 'proper' helmet lock on that.

Big OT, but Tom that nice tool box looks to be a recycled twist drill index, no? Cool tail light idea, nice bike. You are right. Living in Jersey sometimes you have to lockup your denture cup.

yeah Its an old milwaukee drill bit box I got from my old man. I just sanded it down, painted, re-rivited the hinges, and added a little hole clasp for a lock to go through. I always thought the back of a license plate bracket was a perfect spot for a toolbox.
