Firstly, am I right in thinking that there are no aftermarket ignition units for our steeds?

If not, then can any of the more induction-savvy comment on the TCIP4 from this company?

IgniTech.

Will it work with our bikes? Is it an easy swap?

Also, if I buy one of these, I may need to send them a wiring diagram of the connector; does anyone know if the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual is correct? Could I just send a copy of that page?

Keep us posted. It would be great if someone could fix us up with another option rather than the $500-$600 price thag that the factory puts on our igniters.

I have a feeling the 270 degree firing is a major problem with finding crossover & aftermarket units. Not sure though.

The 360 control modules practically grow on trees, brand new & ripe for the pluckin' at around $100.

By the way, thanks for the link to these connectors

$500-$600 hundred dollars for a ignitor? ARE THEY CRAZY??? I sure hope so... I think I'm in danger of needing one soon. Well it's either that or coils or throttle position sensor. Crap, I hope it's not that ignitor!

Has anyone here attempted to disassemble the ignition module? I'm wondering if it's potted, or if the individual components (transistors, resistors, etc.) are accessible.

Here's the response I got from them re: using their module on our bikes...
---
Hello

We don't know your bike. Could you send us information you can collect.
We are not ure if we will be able to offer you unit for your bike.
Could you also read text below.

Regards

Jan Matous
Ignitech s.r.o.

What details do you need for production of ignition?
We need mostly only type of bike. For example: Yamaha XTZ660 and year of
manufacture.
Some bike has more modification. For this bike is useful if you could send
us:
a) bike type, and year of manufacture
b) Photo of original ignition, photo of connectors, color of wires on
particular pins.
c) Wiring diagram if possible.
d) Photo of pick up system (pick up and pulse rotor) in TOP position. This
we need only seldom.
e) Another parameters for example maximum revolution (limiter) etc.
---

Anyone happen to have that info handy? If so, email it to ignitech@ignitech.cz and see what they say.

That's a lot better than the common "no, we're not interested in your bike" response! Seems there may be some promise after all.

My tank's off at the mo, so if anyone can tell me what and where the pick up system is, and what they want pictures of, I'll take a few photos.

Also, I need to know whether or not the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual is correct. It should be but I want to be sure before I send it to them. Will someone check it for me and lemme know.

Also, does anyone know of any differences between the years and/or engine sizes, etc., that they should be aware of?

Lastly, just to clarify, the igniter is under the tank, on the left-hand side of the frame, with a load of wires coming out of it. Si? No?
