A week or so ago, I mentioned that my battery is original 03
and that I never had a problem with the belt drive. Well it
bit me in the rear today. Double whammy!

First I hit the starter and get the solenoid clicking. OK,
put the battery tender on for a while and it starts. Hedge
comes over and we head out for a ride. Around 6 miles later
we're accelerating from a stoplight and I thought I missed a
shift. Nope! Belt broke! Yes Ian, you told me so.

To make it short, I rode b!tch with Hedge, and we got my
p/u and trailer, and brought it home. Ride cut short.
But, at least we didn't get caught with the trailer on the
Merritt Parkway, with an expired registration.

Why didn't you fix it along the road and finish riding for the day? Oh that's right you can only do that with a chain.

I wouldn't wish a failure on anyone sorry your day got messed up.

I've got a brand new panther (or is it predator?) replacement belt, never been installed. I paid $140 plus shipping. I'll sell it to you for $100 shipped.

Thank you my friend I'll take it. I have a spare gates belt
that I got from one of their dealers. it appears to be the same
size as the one that came from Brent, but has like a plastic
coating on the teeth side?????? Maybe it's better? Who knows?
I think I paid around $180 for it(OUCH) but I still want yours.

It's funny(not laughing now), But after your post about the
chewed up pulleys, I gave mine a close inspection. Looked
carefully at the belt and pulleys, and they looked fine!
In fact, except where it broke, the belt looks great after
8,000 miles.

Anyway, I'll pm you.
At least I didn't get bit by a spider, hope you're feeling better,
Uncle Charlie

Is this the belt that comes in the kit (don't remember who sells it now)? Did it really fail after only 8K miles??

It was the belt that came with the QPD rig from Brent. And,
yes it broke at about 8k. I had hoped for 25k out of it. So,
this failure seems a bit premature. When I ordered this kit,
I also ordered a spare belt, but never got one. Fearing that
the belt would break sooner, or later, I got one from a local Gates
dealer. In retrospect, I should've gotta the HD one.
I don't know how to post pics, If someone pms me a e-mailadd
I'll send pics of the broken belt.

Ride her up here, we'll put your chain back on, and we can swap your ignitor while we're at it.
I'll even fill your gas tank cause I'm such a sport.
It's a balmy 60 degrees 24/7 in my underground garage.

My brand new ignitor will not fire my bike.
The old one will fire one side.
I have four coils, and four plugs and plug wires all in working order.
None of them will remedy the problem, and neither will a side to side wire swap, at either side of the coils.
Guess I'll pull the carbs for the 3rd time?
That's always a pleasure to do.

I've got a fuel tank sized gas soaked rag ready to rock.

Jeez Charlie that sucks about the belt. Hope the next one gives you a few more miles. At least you weren't stranded alone and having to thumb it.

No worries Pat, spare belt installed. In fact, pulling the
rear wheel, and swingarm, gave me a chance to easily clean
everything up. I'll polish my BuBs and put the rest back
together tomorrow. Glad it didn't happen on the way to BTB.
This is why I do test rides,
Uncle Charlie
