I looked for some posts that contrast the performance of the EFI models versus the carburetted models.

Can some of you who have ridden both comment? Do the EFI models require remapping if aftermarket pipes are installed?

any comments pro or con would be appreciated.

Can't say I've ridden a fuelie BA or Speedy, Kevin, though I have taken a one of the new standard EFI-equiped Bonnies out for a short ride, and it was very impressive. It was responsive from the get-go and it ran without nary a hiccup.

BTW...Does this question signify that you're now maybe contemplating replacing your old love with a newer BA or Speedy instead of the new T-Bird like you mentioned a while back?

Yup. The T-bird is still an unknown entity to a degree. And there is something to be said for our all time favorite ride when all is said and done.

It's gonna be awhile now before my scrawny conservative little butt is swung across any saddle. My doctor has advised me that in his opinion I will need four to five more months of solid strength regaining.

I will no doubt take a look at the T-bird but I sure know like every owner on this site that our bikes have a certain little nastalgic heart tug that cannot be denied.

I was just wondering what the aftermarket pipe story is with the EFI bikes.

But then I can even look for a nice used pre EFI bike as well.

I miss looking out my kitchen window where my black Speedie was in plain sight most of the time.

The classic lines and laid back look ......not sure a T-bird will ever replace that.

Yes they do! I had TORS fitted from new and that included remapping.I believe there are 2 levels of remapping available from the standard efi computer.Aftermarket,ie even more open than TORS may use the second level.

Well that's certainly a shame, dude! I mean that sounds like you won't be gettin' a new bike until just about at the end of "riding season", huh?!

AHH yea.....fortunately riding season is pretty much all year round.

Seasons in Tucson in reality

Winter- Mid Nov thru feb. But even in these months abnormally warm weather is self evident. cold mornings though.

Spring- March thru April. -

Summer- May thru Sept.

fall October thru mid November.

- RIDE ALL YEAR.

Thank you Checkered. I will keep that in mind if I purchase a new Speedie or America. I'd probably preorder some pipes and have them installed by the dealer.

I will get to have all the fun of picking out one of the various aftermarket pipes.

I second that. I fitted TORS 5 months after I bought my 08 EFI and was told that they did not require remapping, one run up the road proved that remapping was needed - If you like Backfires on overrun and Pops an excel fine -. After the remap smooth as a baby`s bum.

I concur on the remap for aftermarket pipes. I fitted Staintunes right from new and the dealer said there were 3 Triumph maps - stock pipes, TORs and one for aftermarket pipes.

The bike responds smoothly but I do get the occassional popping on decell and closed throttle but I suspect that is caused by the AI which we EFI bikes cannot remove

I have just installed a K&N air filter and there seems to be a bit less popping and peppier and freer accelleration Mapping remains the same of course.

Because the Oxy sensor is after the AI but I imagine it could be removed as long as it is done before the bike is remapped and remapped taking that into consideration.

I think the part of the issue is that there are no official Triumph maps for no EFI and 3rd party maps haven't been developed yet.

+1 on remapping. I fitted the tapered TORs 2K miles ago, and never changed the stock map. Some popping on decel, but seemed ok. Just for sh!ts and giggles I took Cory in for a chip check, and found out that Triumph issued a software upgrade in April for the BA, so they downloaded the upgrade and the TORs map no charge. MAJOR improvement in power and deeper sound, and no more popping on decel. Mechanic (after his test ride) recommended I not remove the secondary air system on the EFI engine, like what Ian said. So yes, you need the TORs remap and you will love it. As a sidebar, the new spark curve seems to have induced a tiny new vibration on acceleration which is quite agreeable to the pillion occupant. Go figure.

Oh, also the mechanic recommended not molesting the maps with Tuneboy, Power Commander, etc. Ok for Daytona, Speed Triple, Tiger - not so much for the Standing Twins. Over and out.

If you install the Triumph off roads (TORS) triumph recommend you get the dealer to remap the bike. I have the speedy EFI and this has been done at my local dealer and no charge was made for the remap.....

Quite right, Richard. Like Ian said, the AI is factored into the O2 sensor circuit and needs to be there. I too have seen no aftermarket mappers for the BA, and I'm inclined to leave well enough alone, esp. the way Cory is running now. Fuelies Rule, do they not?

then he does not have much experience with tuneboy because even without any dyno tunes they are a huge improvement.
